    Winter Gardening — at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Owen County Public Library. Investigate ideas on how to extend your landscape season through the winter.
    Profit With Produce — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at at the Capstone Produce Market in Campbellsburg. Morning program will be on vegetable production practices and afternoon program focuses on food safety and marketing.

  • Giles was a great member of community

    While shopping at Walmart last Wednesday, I ran into several Monterey folks who I hadn’t seen for some time including Martha Bee and Gary Brock.
    I saw Gary in October at the Monterey Fair, but I can’t tell you the last time I saw Martha Bee. She looked great and it was so nice to see her out and about.
    I also ran into Susie Ballard. We chatted for a minute, too. I was telling her what a great time she missed out on by not joining us for the tubing adventure. I told her that I am looking forward to joining them all again in the future.

  • Cable-Nicholson wedding

    April Sams and Craig Cable would like to announce the upcoming marriage of their mother, Annette Cable, of Owenton, to Patrick Nicholson of Frankfort. The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 14, 2011, at Richland Baptist Church in Hesler.
    It is the bride’s wish that donations be made to Richland Baptist Church in lieu of wedding gifts.
    Friends are welcome. Come celebrate Valentine’s Day with us.

  • Tucker Nelijah Thomas

    Tucker Nelijah Thomas was born at 10:45 a.m., Jan. 12, 2011, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala.
    He weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20-inches long.
    He is the son of Capt. Daniel and Katie Thomas of Fort Rucker, Ala.
    He is the maternal grandson of Tim and Lee McIntosh of Owenton and Greg Cope of Danville; the paternal grandson of Denise and the late Denny Thomas of Dry Ridge; the maternal great-grandson of Tommy and Rachel Sharp; the paternal great-grandson of the late Rosemary Urk; and the maternal great-great-grandson of Mildred Acree.

  • Youth hit the slopes

    Eleven Owen County 4-H teens took a trip to Perfect North Slopes for a day of play in the snow Jan. 29. Some tried their hand at skiing and some went tubing.
