Some people just love to prove doctors wrong and one Owen County man is doing so in a record-setting fashion.
After nearly losing an arm in a chainsaw accident almost 20 years ago, David W. Mears of Owenton recently set several new state records in weightlifting.
Although he already owned every record in his 308 lbs. weight division, Mears established new marks in bench lifting, squats, dead lift and overall weight in the state of Kentucky for the Natural Athletic Strength Association.
“It was by far the best meet of my life,” Mears said.
