  • Birth announcement: Joseph Conner Hall

    Joseph Conner Hall, the son of Joe Hall and Stephanie England of Owenton, was born March 9, 2012 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. He weighed 5 lbs., 3 ounces and was 18 inches long.

  • Birth announcement: Kinley Brooke Bartram

    Kinley Brooke Bartram was born Jan. 7, 2012, at 1:43 p.m. in the Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.
    She was 8 lbs, 4 ounces and 21 inches long. She is the daughter of Jackie and Ashley Bartram of Wheatley.
    She is welcomed to the world by her brother Jaden, 5; her maternal grandparents Butch and Rena Kendall of Wheatley; her paternal grandparents Lee and Terry Bartram and the late Debbie Bartram of Sparta; her great-grandparents, Arthur and Orithia Hamilton, Jack Ogden, Shirley Baker, and Georgia Bartram.

  • Ministry finds a new home

    Meeting the Needs Ministry has moved
    The office is now located at the El Bethel Christian Church parsonage at 3365 Georgetown Road.  
    The hours of operation are the same: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m.

  • Owen County District Court - March 23, 2012

    Owen Fiscal Court and Owen County Ambulance vs. Archie W. Blackburn, defendant failed to to appear in Owen District Court on June 24, 2011 for answer to interrogatories, $100 cash bond set, released.
    Archie W. Blackburn, 1954, contempt of court, in jail, $500 cash bond set, released.
    James Lee Collins, 1980, theft by unlawful taking, pleaded guilty, 180 days, to serve four, credit time served, court costs.

  • A remarkable anniversary

    It all started with a phone call.
    On Jan. 11, 2011, a phone call was received at the Owen County High School. The caller was searching for family members of Robert (Bobby) Osborne. The schools seemed like a logical place to start.
    The caller, Mike Harris, was looking for Bobby Osborne, the son of Porter and Christine Osborne.
    After a conversation, an email outlining Harris’ request was sent to the staff, teachers and administrators of the Owen County School District to see if anyone knew Bobby Osborne and that someone was seeking this information.

  • Owen On-Line

    Anyone with a computer and Internet access can now find out everything there is to know about Owen County after a new website recently went live.
    The website was created by Holly Bowling, a member of the Owen County Visioneers, Shanna Osborne and Brad Allnut.
    Bowling said she was ask to join the Visioneers last spring and that a website had been in their plans in an effort to promote tourism in Owen County.

  • Rolling out in style

    The Owen County Volunteer Fire Department has a new addition to its team that chief Robb Chaney said will better help protect the people and property of Owen County.
    The department unveiled its new fire truck, a 2011 International, March 22.
    Chaney said the truck committee met for four months, five nights a week, in order to choose the truck they felt was best for their department.
    The truck committee was made up of Chaney, Greg Estes, Jeff Wright, Marlin Webster, Jackie Webster, Darrel Hearn, David Lilly, Rick Morgan and Josh Willobuy.

  • Owen district forced to cut nine certified positions

    As school districts nationwide continue to struggle with budget issues, the Owen County School Board recently approved a staffing allocation that will leave the district short nine certified positions.
    The pool of certified positions mainly consists of classroom teachers.
    The board met March 22 for further budget discussion and also approved for the Owen County primary and elementary schools to share a media specialist and guidance counselor as part of the staffing allocation.
