  • Birth announcement: Emma Helene and Avery Michaela Walker

    Emma Helene and Avery Michaela Walker, the twin daughters of Chad and Jennifer, were born June 26, 2102.
    Avery weight 6 pounds 9 ounces and Emma weighed 5 pounds three ounces.

  • Deputy talks safety with students

    Owen County Sheriff’s Deputy Brent Caldwell came to visit Billie Smith and Lacey Bastin’s kindergarten classrooms at OCPS to wrap up a study on safety. Caldwell discussed safety tips and entertained questions regarding safety with both classrooms.

  • Rebels fall into Tigers’ trap

    The Bellevue Tigers’ offense seemed like they ran the same play all night and the Owen County defense could not stop it.
    The Tigers came to Owenton Friday and for much of the night they ran the ‘trap’ play with running back Dylan Huff. The junior was able to find the hole and run through it to help his Bellevue team return home with a 22-14 win over Owen County.
    The loss drops the Rebels to 2-3 on the season as they get ready to open up play in District 5 on Friday night against Walton-Verona.

  • Rebel Ramblings: Walton-Verona

    • The Owen County High School football team traveled to Walton-Verona last season and defeated the Bearcats 27-6. It was the first-ever regular season contest between the two schools.
    • Walton-Verona finished last season 8-3  and lost in the first round of the Class 2A Playoffs to Lloyd. It was their second-straight winning season after finishing 8-4 in 2010. In the five years of the program, the team has an overall record of 29-23.
    • The Bearcats are coached by Jeff Barth, who is in his fourth year at the helm.

  • MBMS Rebels dominate in win

    The Maurice Bowling Middle School Rebels have made winning look easy so far this season.
    Another example came Sept. 18 against Carroll County as the Rebels defeated the Panthers 40-14.
    MBMS got off to a quick start as Josh Payton took the opening kickoff and returned it 60 yards to the five-yard line. From there, Patrick Osborne scored from two-yards out to put the Rebels on the board. The 2-point conversion would come from a Nolan Tackett pass to Ross Ford to give the Rebels an 8-0 advantage.

  • Volleyball team gets pair of district wins

    The Owen County High School volleyball team spent a busy week against 31st District competition. The Lady Rebels played three consecutive nights against the likes of Carroll County, Gallatin County and Henry County.
    The Lady Rebels began the week playing in Carrollton against the Lady Panthers. It was the third meeting between the two schools this season with Carroll County winning the previous two.
    Sept. 18 would not be different with the Lady Panthers prevailing in four sets.

  • Cross county running strong

    The Owen County High School cross-country teams were on the course twice last week.
    They began the week Sept. 18  at Carroll County for a NCKC meet.
    The boys were led by Hunter Trenary, who won the race, and  Cory Hudnall, who came in second.
    Logan Bitler placed fourth with Kyle Flood finishing in sixth place. Keith Stout came in 12th with Evan Lozier landed in 22nd place and Kyle Lozier coming in 30th.
    The girls had a good showing at Carroll County as well. Courtney Creech finished fourth and Samantha Tamplin came in 10th.

  • Soccer season winding down

    The regular season for the Owen County High School soccer teams is reaching its end.
    The boys will play their final home game Saturday at noon against Carroll County.
    The girls will close out the home portion of their schedule Thursday as they take on Carroll County at 5:30 p.m.
    Both teams will be in action today (Wednesday) as they travel to New Castle to take on Henry County in a doubleheader.

  • Soccer season winding down

    The regular season for the Owen County High School soccer teams is reaching its end.
