  • Rebels miss shot at finals

    They struggled at the free-throw line and at times did not take good care of the basketball. Despite that the Owen County High School Rebels still had a shot to send their eighth region semifinal contest with Oldham County to overtime.
    Making a third semifinal appearance in the last four years, Owen County entered Monday night’s game looking to avenge a 48-36 loss to the Colonels in February.
    The Rebels reached the semifinals with a hard fought 48-40 win over Anderson County Thursday night.

  • Academic achievement: Timothy E. Burgener

    Timothy E. Burgener, the husband of Nita Malcomb Burgener, of Worthville, is a full-time student at Gateway Community & Technical College in Florence. He has made a 4.0 GPA for the fall semester 2011 and has a 3.71 GPA overall. This past November he was inducted into the National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, and is also the vice president of scholarship in his local honors chapter. He will be graduating in May with an associate degree in industrial maintenance technology.

  • Birth announcement: Ella Ruth Mills

    Ella Ruth Mills was born Dec. 8, 2011, at 5:27 p.m. in the Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She weighed 7 lbs., 9 oz. and was 20 inches long. She is the daughter of Christopher and Rebecca Mills of Owenton. She was welcomed into the world by her maternal grandparents, Donald and Glenda Allnutt of Owenton; her paternal grandparents, Homer Mills Jr. of Inez and Teresa Stapleton of Vinton, Ohio; and her great-grandparents, Nellie Gibson and Jackie Allnutt of Owenton and Dacus Sumpter and Verlie Mills of Inez.

    Gracie Michelle Lenear was born Feb. 17, 2012. Her parents are Robert Lenear and Bobbie Jump. Her grandparents are Johnny Bob Jump, Angie Waddle and Jason, Bobby and Billie Lenear. Gracie weighed 8 lbs., one ounce.

    The weather suits my mood this morning.
    The Cats lost Sunday and Tiger pulled something in his leg and had to withdraw from the tournament. I’m going to have to get a new hobby. I’m getting too old for all this trauma.  
    There’s really not much news this week. Johnny Bob did get out of the hospital and was moved back to Kindred Northfield Nursing Home on Hunting Road.

  • Academic achievement: Nine named to BC&TC dean’s list

    Bluegrass Community and Technical College has recognized the following students from Owen County who have achieved dean’s list honors for the 2011 fall semester.  The college recognizes academic excellence by naming to the dean’s list full-time students who have earned an overall semester grade point average of 3.5 or better in courses numbered 100 or above.
