  • Democratic Party selects local leaders

    The Owen County Democratic Party Executive Committee has elected the following officers and delegates for the state convention: Stuart Bowling, chairman; Chris Spurgeon, vice-chairman; Rob Stafford, secretary; and Frank Downing, treasurer.
    Delegates are Carolyn Keith, Frank Downing and Courtney Bourne.

  • Beverly represents Owen at Rotary Club Speech Contest

    This year’s theme for the 2012 Rotary Speech Contest was “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity.”  Contestants learned about Rotary and its mission.  Winners at the local level were OCHS students Robert Beverly (first place with a  $300 prize), Rachel Dauwe (second place with $200 prize) and James Thompson (third prize with $100 prize)

  • Applications being taken for clothing construction program

    Thanks to shows like “Project Runway,” and “Fashion Star,” sewing is enjoying newfound popularity.  If you have a basic knowledge of garment construction, want to perfect your craft and help others learn to sew, you may find the master volunteer in clothing construction program enjoyable and fulfilling.  Recruitment for the next class of Master Clothing Volunteers is ongoing through the end of June.

  • Academic achievement: Amanda Cook

    Amanda Cook, a Western Kentucky University student from Owenton, was awarded the Outstanding Senior in Chemical Education Award from the Department of Chemistry at the WKU Ogden College of Science and Engineering Student Awards Ceremony on April 22 at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center in Bowling Green. Cook is pictured with Dr. Lester Pesterfield, professor from the Department of Chemistry at WKU, Cook has served as the president of the Southern Kentucky Teach Student Organization for the last two years.
     

  • Birth Announcement: Lillyan Mae Justis

    Lillyan Mae Justis, the daughter of Dana and Michelle Justis, was born April 16 at 8:10 a.m. at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
    She weighed 6 lbs. 8.5 oz. and was 18.5 inches long.

  • Engagement: Pierson-Duff

    Desiring God’s will for their lives and believing that includes each other, Robin Pierson of Owenton, and David Duff of Georgetown, are happy to announce their upcoming wedding. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. and will take place at Great Crossing Baptist Church in Georgetown. All family and friends are welcome to attend. No individual invitations will be sent. Wedding reception is to follow in the fellowship hall of the church.

    Joseph B. Barnes, 1988, complicity theft by unlawful taking, continued to June 5.
    Brittany Nicole Bitzer, remand.
    Thomas K. Blackburn, 1983, four counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument., jury trial set for July 13.
    Samantha Gaston, 1993, receiving stolen property, adopted plea agreement, to pay $50 a month, first payment due by July 31.
    Gaylord Gollihue Jr., 1974, show cause deferred, owes $2,765, to pay $100 a month, bench warrant set for $2,800.

    Elizabeth Smith, 1978, harassment, pleaded not guilty, continued to June 1.
    Patricia Snow, 1968, second-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, preliminary hearing set for May 25.
    Charles Dodson, 1989, second-degree complicity burglary, receiving stolen property under $500, preliminary hearing set for May 25.
    Matthew S. Walters, 1986, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, second-degree disorderly conduct.

  • Red Cross looking for new recruits in Owen

    Are you interested in giving back to your community? How about joining the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team.
     The American Red Cross will host a DAT Volunteer Recruitment Day at the Owenton City Fire Department on Friday at 6 p.m at 214 North Main Street in Owenton , KY 40359. The event is free and open to the public.
