  • Owen Circuit Court - June 25, 2013

    Norman Bruce, 1994, manufacturing methamphetamine, motion for discovery and inspection, remand.
    James A. Clark, 1981, six counts of theft by unlawful taking, three counts of third-degree burglary, second-degree persistent felony offender, pleaded not guilty, jury trial set for Aug. 22.
    Zea Demaree, 1988, probation violation, motion to revoke probation, also owes $2,155, probation revoked.
    Zachary T. Harrod, 1986, third-degree burglary, first-degree persistent felony offender, pleaded not guilty, jury trial set for Aug. 15.

  • Annual shamble raises thousands for Trust for Life

    In its 14th year, the Annual Charlie Satterwhite Golf Shamble was held at the Fairway Golf Course on April 6.
    Several foursomes turned out for a gorgeous day of golf in support of this important event.
    Fairway Golf Course Owner Gilbert England presented a $3,500 check to the Trust For Life’s Satterwhite Recipient Assistance Fund.
    The fund was named in memory of Owen County’s Circuit Court Judge Charles Satterwhite. 

  • Birth announcements: Austin James Bray and Acacia LeVaugh Howard

    The descendants of Joan (Jim) Glass recently increased by two.
    On June 17, 2013, daughter Meghan gave birth to Austin James Bray. He weighed 3 pounds and 8 ounces and is doing well.
    On Friday, June 21, Robin’s daughter Erica gave birth to her second child Acacia LeVaugh Howard. She weighed 7 pounds and eight ounces.

    Feeder Steers Medium & Large #1-#2: 300-400 lbs.  $171-179; 400-500 lbs.  $169-175; 500-600 lbs.  $155-169, including 21 head (black) 522 lbs. $167; 600-700 lbs.  $143-161 including 38 head (black) 613 lbs.  $160; 700-800 lbs.  $145.

  • Fan Fair Quilt Show continues through Saturday

    The Owen County Fan Fair brings to you the Second Annual Quilt Show through Saturday.  The quilt show is free and open to the public.  It is located at the Owen County Extension Office and runs in conjunction with the Owen County Fan Fair. 
    The hours of operation through through Friday are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
    There will be over 200 quilted items on display.

    Owen fiscal court changes meeting day, time

    The regular meeting of the Owen County Fiscal Court has been moved from Tuesday, Oct. 8 to Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Owen County Courthouse courtroom.
    Shut down closes doors on conservation district

    Due to the federal government shutdown, the staff of the conservation district is unable to enter the building.

  • Friends of Gratz school meet

    A few longtime friends with connections to the old one-room school at Gratz gathered at the Smith House Saturday for dinner and remembering. The group hopes to organize a reunion in the fall for the school and community friends.

  • NASCAR Nation focuses on Kentucky this week

    NASCAR is coming back to Kentucky.
    The Kentucky Speedway will be the place to be this weekend as fans will descend upon Sparta for three races beginning on Thursday night.
    The first race of the weekend will be the Camping World Truck Series UNOH 225.
    Matt Crafton will come to Sparta as the points leader. He is 23 points ahead of Jeb Burton, who won the Winstar World Casino 400 at the Texas Motor Speedway June 7.
