  • Carter Allen Patton - Birth announcement

    Carter Allen Patton was born Nov. 15, 2010. He weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.
    Parents are Sarah Ayres and Stanley Patton. Grandparents are Jeff and Beckie Ayres, Curt and Bonnie Patton, and Linda Jump.

  • Sawyer Allen Welch - Birth announcement

    Sawyer Allen Welch was born at 10:59 a.m. Dec. 17, 2010, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
    He is the son of Allen and Kari Welch of Frankfort.
    He was 21 inches long and weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces.
    He is welcomed to the world by his sister, Shelby Allison Welch, 7.
    Sawyer Allen is the maternal grandson of Richard and Susan Hampton of Owenton and the paternal grandson of Patty Welch of Carrollton.

  • Smith-Walton Engagement

    Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Smith of Owenton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Smith, to Joshua Walton, son  of the late Sgt. Todd M. Walton of Saginaw, Mich.
    The wedding is planned for Oct. 15, 2011.

  • Gardens of Owen County take spotlight

    Beef synchronization
    The weather we had this past summer may cause some later calving cows to be particularly late in coming into cycle for re-breeding this spring. There are some techniques available that might help producers tighten up the potentially drawn-out calving season for next year.
    A meeting to discuss new research and methods of estrus synchronization for beef cattle will be held at the Carroll County Extension Office at 7 next Tuesday night. Anyone interested in learning more about this is invited to attend. Call the extension office for more information.

    I finally got off the Branch last week. My van hadn’t left the garage since a week ago Thursday. Luckily, I had gone to the library Tuesday, the 18th, to stock up on books and gone to Walmart on Thursday to get dog food and milk. After that, the cold and snow moved in and I stayed in.

    Jan. 25, 2011

    Joann Adams, 1974, shock probation in felony convictions, to pay $100 a month, continued to Feb. 8.
    Christopher A. Adkins, first-degree sexual abuse, failure to comply with sex offender registry, second-degree persistent felony offender, motion to suppress, denied, continued to Feb. 8.
    Robert James Craig, 1977, probation violation, motion to revoke probation, also owes $10,930 restitution, fees and costs.
    Christopher Dennis Jr., murder, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, enhancement trafficking in marijuana, jury trial set for May 4 and May 18.

    Nathan W. Fitzgerald, 1984, second-degree fleeing or evading the police, resisting arrest, violation of conditions of release, operating non-motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, pleaded not guilty, continued to Feb. 4.
    Roberto C. Herrera, 1974, non-payment of fines, in jail, owes $898, $930 cash bond set, contempt 10 days, release if pays, show cause hearing set for June 3.
    Justin L. Smith, 1990, third-degree burglary, receiving stolen property under $500, pleaded not guilty, continued to Feb. 4.

  • Local-option elections are complex

    Many people believe that elections only consist of voting and seeing the results of the election on the television or reading them the next day in the paper. In fact, the election process starts months before Election Day.
    Elections are a full-time job with some of the most complex responsibilities expected of an elected official. However, preparing for the election in the County Clerk’s Office is just one of the many responsibilities and duties that we handle.

  • Cold winters used to bring Owen families together

    Recently the January cold spell broke, and after a couple days of rain, a farm wagon piled high with browned tobacco was seen sashaying behind a tractor on its journey down Hwy. 127. The once “King Crop” of Owen County was on its way to a prospective buyer.
