    Owen County VEX Robotics team recently hosted a competition at the Owen County High School. The top finishers were Fuzzy Wuzzy, The Honey Badgers, Tech Rebels 1, Iteration Happens Plan B, QT Pie, Team OCHS1, Team OCHS1, Perry Robotics, KSD Team 1, Tech Rebels 3, A Team, Tech Rebels 2, Terriers, Red Hot Habaneros, Team OCHS, Fighting Camels VEX, Yoda,  MV3, Solo, Terriers, Wahoo Brothers, Wolfman Pack, Iteration Happens w/ 177, Terriers, Maroon 5, Terriers, Terriers, Enaic, IDK, Hobo Robots and Flamingos.

  • Lady Pioneers end Lady Rebels' season

    Owen County knew the task would be tough.
    After losing in the 31st District championship game to Gallatin County, the Lady Rebels drew Simon Kenton in the quarterfinal round of the Eighth Region Tournament at North Oldham.
    The Lady Pioneers entered the contest with 26 wins after soundly defeating Grant County to win the 32nd District title.
    The two teams were no strangers to meeting in the quarterfinals. Simon Kenton had beaten Owen County twice while the Lady Rebels got the best of the Lady Pioneers two years ago.

  • Rebels' comeback comes up short

    The Owen County High School Runnin’ Rebels scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to take the lead. They could not, however, score the last one.
    Twice in the Feb. 28 Eighth Region quarterfinal, Owen County found itself behind by at least eight points to Anderson County, but each time, the Owen County boys rallied back.
    After tying the game at 7-7 midway through the first quarter, the Bearcats ended the quarter on an 10-1 run to lead 17-8.

  • Birth Announcement: Hudson Cruz Gray

    Jon and Abby Gray of Georgetown would like to announce the birth of their son, Hudson Cruz. Hudson was born at 7:33 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. He weighed 9 lbs. and was 20 and three-quarters inches long. The maternal grandparents are Sherry and David Lyons and Danny Cobb of Owenton. His paternal grandparents are Arkus and Janice Gray of Manchester. His great-grandparents are Chester and Emily Marston of Owenton, Vergil Cobb of Owenton and Burton Hoskins of Manchester.

    Michael and Stacey Miller are excited to announce the birth of their daughter, Brenna Raye. She arrived at 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2013. She weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 21 inches long. Her proud grandparents are Billy and June Prather, Roxanne and Owen Bennett and George and Donna Miller, all of Owenton; and her great-grandfather is Herbert Prather of Owenton.

  • Police charge three in local bank robbery

    A third and final suspect in connection with the robbery of the New Liberty branch of the First Farmers Bank and Trust was arrested at Carroll County Memorial Hospital Monday.
    Todd McIntyre, 42, of Ghent, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with second-degree robbery, flagrant non-support and failure to appear.
    Aaron L. Jones, 23, of Fort Mitchell and Wilma Renee Jones, 32, of Carrollton, were arrested without incident by the Fort Mitchell Police Department in Fort Mitchell Saturday.

  • Utility to build water pipeline to Owenton

    Kentucky American Water has been authorized to build a pipeline that will connect its customers in the Owenton area to the company’s water treatment plant on the Kentucky River in Owen County.
    The Kentucky Public Service Commission issued an order Thursday that found building a pipeline and related storage tanks is more cost-effective than making improvements to Owenton’s aging treatment facility, which KAW owns and operates.
