  • Birth announcement: Denver Alexander Souix Corchado

    Stephanie Miles Ucan and Marcos Corchado-Castaneda of Carrollton announce the birth of their son, Denver Alexander Souix Corchado, born, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He weighed 8 pounds 15 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.
    Marcos Alejandro Corchado, 20, of Torreon, Mexico helped welcome his little brother home.
    Maternal grandparents are Phyllis and Larry Sculley of Port Royal and Tommy and Denise Miles of Owenton. Maternal great-grandparents are James Dempsey of Carrollton, and Irene Duncan of Amelia, Ohio.

  • Odd Fellows earn their degrees

    On Nov. 3, Darrel Baker from Owenton, Emmanuel Lodge #213 and John Taylor from Jonesville, Willis Lodge #9 completed their degree work for their Odd Fellow Lodges.
    The work was conducted by an Indiana degree team in Lorraine, Lodge #4 in Louisville.
    A meal furnished by Lorraine Lodge was enjoyed by all who attended.
    Emmanuel Lodge #213 will be sponsoring a blood drive Jan. 4, 2013.

  • EKU senior receives recreation scholarship

    Eden Fisher, Owenton, a senior at Eastern Kentucky University, received the Student Scholarship Award from the Kentucky Parks and Recreation Society at a banquet in Frankfort on Nov. 14.
    The award is given annually to recognize a current undergraduate student pursuing a career in parks and recreation.

    It seems the year comes and goes faster every year. I have hardly put away the lawn mower and I’m changing the house from the beautiful fall colors to the red, green and gold of Christmas. Yes, I said Christmas, can you believe it’s less than a month away?

  • Rebels earn postseason honors

    The Owen County High School Lady Rebels had an incredible year on the golf course in 2012.
    The Lady Rebels won the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic and the Sixth Region championship. It was the fourth All ‘A’ title in a row and the first Sixth Region title in school history.
    As a result of the success, the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association has named Shelby Power to the All Region Team in the Sixth Region. Power finished off a great season by winning the Sixth Region individual title.

  • Owen countians shine at University of Tennessee Judo Championship

    The Owen County Judo Team competed in the 2012 University of Tennessee Judo Championship  Nov. 17  in Knoxville, Tenn.  James Thompson took second out of 13 in the senior men’s brown/black belt division. Kaelee von Hellens placed third in the 11/12-year-old girl’s division.

  • Oh Deer: Grace Chilton

    Grace Chilton, 12, shot a doe and button buck while hunting with her father Tim.  She was hunting on Jim and Katie Gibson’s farm in New Liberty.

    Austin Burton harvested this buck during a recent hunting trip.

  • Oh Deer: Bob Coubert

    On Nov. 15, Bob Coubert, the son of Ann Keith, shot an 11-point buck on his grandparents’ farm on Cull Road.

  • Oh Deer: Billy Joe West

    Billy Joe West, 11-year-old grandson of Don and Jackie McDonald, killed a 7-point buck on his uncle’s farm in Owen County.
