On Oct. 1, the Owen County 4-H Program held its annual achievement banquet.

The goal of the annual banquet is to recognize and acknowledge the local 4-Her’s for the involvement, participation, and accomplishments they have received over the course of the club year. This year, the following Owen County 4-H members were recognized:

Hundreds of Owen countians eager to protect themselves from the H1N1 virus lined the area around the Owen County Health Center for the first mass vaccination clinic Thursday.

Three Rivers District Health Department Director of Public Health Georgia Heise said that all of the vaccination available was given out at the clinic.

“We had more people than we had vaccine,” Heise said. “District wide, we’ve given out 1,800 vaccines and 350 of those were given out in Owen County Thursday.”

I did not know much about farming. My family had always  been in the grocery business, so all I knew was the farmer got paid once a year.

After winning the CANAM National Cheerleading Championship in 2004 at Myrtle Beach, S.C., Maurice Bowling Middle School Cheerleader Coach Jenna Gray will take a new group of cheerleaders to the 2010 celebration cheer and dance nationals in Indianapolis, Ind.

Gray, an instructional technology teacher at MBMS, said this is the first time she has taken a group of cheerleaders to a national competition since 2005.
