  • One mile at a time

    On June 14, motorcycle riders are encouraged to gather at the Thornhill Baptist Church parking lot on Holmes Street across from the Family Dollar Shopping Center in Frankfort at 4:45 p.m.
    The Sisters Act Owen County Relay for Life team will host a charity fund-raising motorcycle ride that will end up at the Owen County Relay For Life event.
    The ride departs at 5:15 p.m. toward the Owen County Park, which is located on the northern side of Owenton on Fairgrounds Road.

  • Owen County official offers tips for tornado safety

    Every state is at some risk of tornadoes and the damage that they leave behind. Some tornadoes are clearly visible, while rain or nearby low-hanging clouds may obscure others.
    Occasionally, tornadoes develop so rapidly that little, if any, advance warning is possible.
    To begin preparing for any disaster, you should build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan.

  • Williams shines at tournament

    Hoop Dreams 15U AAU basketball team won the Nike Memorial Day Classic Tournament held in Atlanta.  After winning the prestigious tournament, the team rose to sixth place in the nation by Five Star Power Rankings.  Members of the team include (back row, left to right) Logan Ziegler, Carson Williams, Malik Dow, Montrell Dixson, and Zac Pulliam; (Front row, left to right) Coach Mike Scott, Will Hager, Malik Manica, Jordan Perry, Quentin Goodin, and asst. coach Wooten.

    The families of Clayton and Amanda Cook would like to announce their recent graduation from Western Kentucky University.
    Clayton graduated cum laude with a B.S. in civil engineering.
    Amanda graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in chemistry and a B.S. in science and math education.
    Both Clayton and Amanda studied abroad and graduated from the Honors College at WKU. Clayton received the John Russell Civil Engineering Award and Amanda received the Secondary SkyTeach Senior Award.
