Kentucky Ridge Country Communications will begin installing high-speed Internet throughout Owenton.

Ron Rymer, general manager of KRCC, said the company began work on providing this service before the ice storm in January.

“We’ve been working on this for a good number of months to get it to this point,” Rymer said. “When we launch the service, it will be ongoing.”

Rymer said eventually Owenton citizens will see the same speed of Internet as major cities like Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati.

The Owen County School District is pleased to announce Bonnie Sharer has been chosen as the volunteer of the month for October.

Sharer was nominated by Kristal New, kindergarten teacher at the primary school.

“Bonnie is always willing and ready to pitch in wherever she is needed,” New said. “I can call her on a moment’s notice when I need a volunteer and she is here within 20 minutes.”

Don’t Owen countians pay enough taxes?

In response to Bonnie Strassell’s letter to the editor from Nov. 4, I wanted to present my side of the argument concerning the library tax.

Although my family and I do not use the library as much as we’d like, I agree that it’s a vital and necessary part of the community.

I appreciate the work the library staff does and know that the services they provide are important to many citizens in our county. I’m also aware that the resources and programs the library offers are not free.

Thursday will be filled with food, family, friends and parades. Families will gather around roasted turkeys to give thanks.

Despite the economic crisis the country is currently facing, many say Thanksgiving sales are up slightly or have not changed from last year.

Rod Foresee, owner of Meadowview said Monday he can’t be sure of this year’s sales until after Thanksgiving.
