     Joel and Lou Ann were back at church after the bout with food poisoning. Joel said he went to Joey’s graduation from the training he completed. He has been sent to Missouri to a camp there for more seasoning. I don’t know what his plans are after that.

  • No. 1 (Male) Jason Sharp

    Two words best describe Jason Sharp – talented and classy.

    In fact, one might argue that as much athletic talent as he had, he may have had even more class. 

    Sharp was a three-sport star at Owen County High School. He played golf, basketball and baseball. He was great at all three.

    Sharp played four seasons of golf while at OCHS. He played in the state golf tournament his sophomore season and won the NCKC two seasons in a row.

  • VICTORY: Bodine and Castroneves pick up wins at Sparta track

    Todd Bodine is no stranger to the victory lane at Kentucky Speedway. He had, however, never driven a truck there until this past weekend.

    Bodine – who captured the checkered flag in the Nationwide Series race in 2002 – won his second victory at the track Friday by taking the Built Ford Tough 225 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

  • Rebels bring home opening-night win

    Saturday night’s bus ride home from Grant County was much better than the same one they took last year.

    Last year, the Rebels lost a heartbreaker 17-10 to the Braves in the Rebels’ first game of the 2009 season.

    This season, Owen County held on to a 14-13 victory to claim game one of the 2010 campaign.

  • Lady Rebels win region volleyball title

    For two years they didn’t win a match. Saturday afternoon in Warsaw they won a championship. The Owen County Lady Rebels volleyball team claimed the 8th Region All “A” Classic earning a berth in the State Tournament.

    “I still can’t believe it,” said head coach T.J. Wesselman. “It shows how much this group of girls has worked.”

    The hard work began to pay in the first round of the tournament when Owen County defeated Gallatin County 21-18 and 25-9.

    The weather was just about as good as it can get last week, pleasant mild days and cool nights, great for golf, mowing and sleeping.

    Bruce and Fay cut hay all week. They did Wanda’s field and then mowed our field across the road and the ones on this side too. I don’t think he got three rolls out of the whole lot of them. It has been so hot and dry here most of July and August that the second cutting just hasn’t grown much. It does look nice and neat now though.

  • Landmark Lost: Baptists raze 116-year-old home

    Preservationists say not enough was done to thwart demolition of a 116-year-old historic home on Main Street. The two-story brick house at 205 N. Main St. was razed Aug. 26. The site will indefinitely serve as a grassy lot for neighboring Owenton First Baptist Church, which acquired the house and a quarter-acre lot in a $220,000, tax-free deal reached four years ago with former owner A.T. Morgan, according to county property records.

  • Consignment store debuts downtown

    Linda Smith said everyone has something nice to say about Owen County – and that’s exactly why she decided to bring her consignment shop from Warsaw to Owenton.

    YOUniquely-U recently opened on the corner of West Seminary and Main streets; and Smith said with a new location and more room, she hopes her business will soon take off with Owen countians.
