    What is the secret to a long life?
    According to one recent study there are currently over 500 centenarians in the state of Kentucky, and when many were asked the secret for their longevity, their answers varied.
    Some declared long life was the result of good food and exercises, while others proclaimed it was their deep abiding faith. One Kentuckian, who at the age of 104 walked two miles a day, attributed three daily beers as the special ingredient that provided her with a long life.

    Search begins for next high school principal

    A principal selection committee has been formed after Owen County High School Principal Danny Osborne was recently named the district’s director of curriculum and instruction.
    Owen County School District Superintendent David Raleigh said he hopes the community will become involved in the selection process.

    The Owenton Lions Club annual fundraiser is hosting The Master of Illusion Magic and Variety Circus at 7 p.m., Friday, at the Owen County Elementary School.
    Not only is this show where the magician pulls a bunny out of a hat, this is an entire evening of wonder and amazement. This show features Las Vegas award-winning illusionist Dinky Gowen, Master of Illusion. It also boasts a talented cast of variety entertainers, from escape artists and fire eaters to jugglers and daring stunts. This event has something for everyone.

    Children’s Fund Celebrates 35th Anniversary
    On Feb. 6, the Owen County Children’s Fund celebrated 35 years of service to Owen County children. Organized in 1982, the Children’s Fund has expended over $100,000 aiding children in the areas of medical, dental, food and clothing.  
    “It all started with a desire to help needy children,” Michael Ramsey, long-time fund treasurer, said.
    Anyone wishing to apply for services (children birth to 18) may do so by calling Janetta Briscoe, Family Resource Center, at 484-4014.  

  • Regular season comes to an end for Runnin’ Rebels

    The regular season has come and gone for the Owen County boys’ basketball team. The team has struggled this season and finished the season 6-23.
    The boys wrapped up the regular season this week with three games. They closed out the home portion of the schedule on Monday night when they hosted Grant County. The Braves defeated the Rebels by three in Dry Ridge earlier in the season, and they would repeat the feat as they won 49-46 in Owenton.
