    Owen Co. Fair
    returns

    For 81 years, the annual Owen County 4-H Fair and Horse Show has brought smiles to the faces of the young and old with a variety of activities and summertime fun.
    Owen County Fair Board President Mark Baldwin assures that this year’s fair will be more of the same, with new memories made each night.
    The fair will kick off Saturday with a walking horse show at 6:30 p.m.

    Domestic case lead to drug indictment

    A convicted felon was recently indicted on methamphetamine charges after Owen County Sheriff Zemer Hammond was called to his residence over a domestic dispute.
    The incident took place during the afternoon hours April 20 at 1675 Hwy. 35. While at the residence Hammond said Kentucky State Trooper Dave Roberts stopped to see if everything was OK.

    Board agrees to maintain certification supplement

    Eight Owen County teachers will continue to receive a $500 supplement after the Owen County Board of Education voted to take it off the table as a potential cut.
    The eight teachers who receive the supplement are certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
    Teachers can receive national board certification by passing assessments that are reviewed by specially trained educators outside the district.

    Georgia educator to lead Owen County High

    When the doors of Owen County High School open for the 2012-2013 school year students will be under new leadership.
    Duane Kline, who currently serves as director of operations for the Butts County School District in Georgia, was awarded the position out of a total of 12 applicants.
