    Court may shut down section of Old Sparta Road

    A portion of the Old Sparta Road could soon be closed indefinitely to traffic after the Owen County Fiscal Court voted to begin the process and hold a public hearing.
    Owen County Judge-executive Carolyn Keith said the portion of Old Sparta Road begins when driving down the hill into Sparta. Two doublewide trailers sit on a caving-in hillside, Keith said.
    There are no residents in the section being discussed.

    Extension service helps guests get ready for the holidays

    It’s never too early to begin decking the halls for the holiday.
    The Owen County Extension Service hosted its annual Holiday Trimmings Workshop Nov. 10. The workshop is held the second Thursday of every November and has remained an Owen County holiday tradition since the mid-1980s.

    Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky pulled a Publisher’s Clearing House on several non-profits in Georgetown Thursday morning.
    As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, Toyota surprised The Gathering Place Mission, Georgetown-Scott County Immigrant Initiative and Scott County Habitat for Humanity with $10,000 each.

    Slaughter cows made up 11 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 2 percent, and feeders 84 percent replacements 3 percent. The feeder supply included 29 percent steers, 33 percent heifers, and 38 percent bulls. Near 41 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.

    Veterans to storm OCHS again

    For four years, Owen County High School students have gone above and beyond when it comes to honoring veterans-sticking with the motto “It’s their day.”
    The annual Veterans Day lunch and assembly began four years ago when then-sophomore Mary Kennedy began her senior year; Kennedy turned the reigns over to current OCHS senior Mattie Cook.

    Perfection; Rebels wrap regular season undefeated

    Friday night at Patterson Field was about one word---perfection.
    The fireworks were loaded and the T-shirts had been bought. All that was needed was for the Rebels to hold up their end of the bargain and finish the job they had started back in August.
    They did not disappoint.
    In the final regular season game of 2011, Owen County lit up the scoreboard against Ludlow, sort of. They made history by defeating the Panthers, 44-12.
