At the Kentucky Retired Teacher’s Association state convention in Louisville on April 22, Owen County’s Retired Teacher’s group was awarded three awards:
• The “Yes, We Did” award for having 100 percent membership;
• The M.L. Archer Membership Award
• The Gold Award for outstanding achievement in reaching the goals and objectives of KRTA.
Barbara Ramsey is the membership chairperson for the local group.

The Carroll County Area Technology Center Skills USA chapter won first place in the leadership event called “Community Service” for their project, “A Place to Sleep,” in the 2013 SkillsUSA Conference and Skills Championship.
The championship was held April 3 at the Galt House in Louisville.
The Kentucky National Guard sponsored and judged the event.
Zach McBurney of Carroll County, Rene Rabago of Carroll County and Nathan Jude of Owen County presented the project.

Local and state law enforcement will be on hand to answer questions from the public during Thursday’s drug forum.
The forum will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday in the Owen County High School auditorium and law enforcement along with local officials are hoping for a large turnout.

Local 4-Hers can expect to see a new face around Owen County this spring.
Born in Owen County, Jessi Williams, 28, had her public school years in Boone County, but knew one day she would return to what she says she has always considered “home.”
After spending five years in the horse industry, Williams finally returned home in October when she became an assistant to Owen County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Science Judy Hetterman.
On March 24, Williams became Owen County’s extension agent for 4-H Youth Development.
