    Calling all investors: We are excited to be involved in an innovative program to make use of our venue to help educate local investors. An integral part of our mission is to provide vital information to local citizens and we believe that DASH for the STASH is an excellent means by which to do so. Come to the library, scan four posters and take a one question quiz about each one on your phone to be entered in a contest to receive a $1,000 contribution to your IRA. This contest runs all through September at the library. Come in at your convenience.

  • School board adopts smoke-free policy

    Owen County Schools recently joined the ranks of a growing number of districts across Kentucky aiming to create a healthier atmosphere for students.
    The Owen County Board of Education approved a proposal to create a smoke-free school system at its Aug. 21 meeting. The district will begin promoting smoke-free areas at each school and athletic event with signs posted throughout its campus.

    Storytime returns Sept. 7

    Calling all pre-schoolers. Storytime returns Sept. 7. Ms. Susan is so excited to see everyone and hear about their summer. She will have her usual bag of tricks open with great games, books and crafts. Remember, registration is required by calling (502) 484-3450 and children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Storytime meets at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, unless there is no school.

  • SOUND THE ALARM: Volunteer firefighters in short supply locally

    Jonesville Fire Chief Allen Cammack remembers well the day he felt called to serve his community. A house fire extinguished earlier that day by the volunteer fire department had reignited and manpower was in short supply.

    “After it rekindled, I remember the fire whistle going off several times trying to get someone to come in and help,” he said. “I thought, ‘You know, I’m here, I’m available and I can do this.’”

    While many young students across the state and nation are often unconcerned with the environment and what’s taking place around them, one Owen County Elementary student recently collected 536 lbs. of recycled plastic lids in caps in order to give back to her community.
