After issuing a no-burn-ban Sept. 24 due to lack of rain, Owen County Judge/Executive Carolyn Keith, has now declared Owen County in a state of emergency.
According to a declaration that was signed Oct. 26, an agriculture drought to county farm crops, coupled with extreme heat, has been ongoing since June 1.
“It’s really too late now for fall hay crops,” Keith said. “But if Gov. (Steve) Beshear were to declare the entire state as being in a state of emergency, our local farmers would have the chance to recoup some of their crops.”
