    Owen County VEX Robotics team recently hosted a competition at the Owen County High School. The top finishers were Fuzzy Wuzzy, The Honey Badgers, Tech Rebels 1, Iteration Happens Plan B, QT Pie, Team OCHS1, Team OCHS1, Perry Robotics, KSD Team 1, Tech Rebels 3, A Team, Tech Rebels 2, Terriers, Red Hot Habaneros, Team OCHS, Fighting Camels VEX, Yoda,  MV3, Solo, Terriers, Wahoo Brothers, Wolfman Pack, Iteration Happens w/ 177, Terriers, Maroon 5, Terriers, Terriers, Enaic, IDK, Hobo Robots and Flamingos.

  • Police charge three in local bank robbery

    A third and final suspect in connection with the robbery of the New Liberty branch of the First Farmers Bank and Trust was arrested at Carroll County Memorial Hospital Monday.
    Todd McIntyre, 42, of Ghent, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with second-degree robbery, flagrant non-support and failure to appear.
    Aaron L. Jones, 23, of Fort Mitchell and Wilma Renee Jones, 32, of Carrollton, were arrested without incident by the Fort Mitchell Police Department in Fort Mitchell Saturday.

  • Utility to build water pipeline to Owenton

    Kentucky American Water has been authorized to build a pipeline that will connect its customers in the Owenton area to the company’s water treatment plant on the Kentucky River in Owen County.
    The Kentucky Public Service Commission issued an order Thursday that found building a pipeline and related storage tanks is more cost-effective than making improvements to Owenton’s aging treatment facility, which KAW owns and operates.

  • One man's gold rush

    Colorado Springs, Colo. isn’t the final goal of Olympic hopeful and Owen County native Robert Beverly but it is an important stepping-stone.
    Beverly, who racked up dozens of top Judo honors while competing for Owen County, is currently training at the United States Olympic Complex and is chasing his dream of a gold medal out west.
    Olympic Coach Eddie Liddie recruited Beverly over the summer at the 2012 National Junior Olympics. He joined the OTC team Jan. 9 after completing his first semester at Jefferson Community College.

  • Onto the national stage

    While most college students will be enjoying a break from the books at home this summer, Owen County High School graduate Christina Johnson will travel to Florida where she will represent Kentucky in a nationwide pageant.
    After being crowned Miss Kentucky Collegiate America 2013 in February, Johnson will compete in the Miss Collegiate America pageant in July, where she will be up against 51 other college-age girls.

  • Art for arts sake

    During the month of February, local artists shared their talents with students at the Owen County Primary School. Highlighted artists included: painter Shonna Toole; potter Eliza Petzinger and basket weaver Ken Hanson and wife Mary Ann. After each artist’s presentation students participated in follow-up activities related to the lesson that the artist taught. We are very thankful to our local community artists for volunteering their time and sharing their talents with Owen County Primary School students.

  • Robber hits local bank

    Kentucky State Police are seeking information after the New Liberty branch of First Farmers Bank and Trust was robbed Saturday morning.
    Dispatchers at KSP Post 5 Campbellsburg received a call of an alarm coming from the bank, located at 460 U.S. Hwy. 227 N., at 11:46 a.m. Saturday.
    According to a KSP press release, video from bank cameras showed the alleged perpetrator entering the bank and going to a teller window. The subject reportedly then told the tellers to give him “all their money.”

  • Rebels reign

    There was more than a 31st District title on the line Saturday night in Carrollton. It was a chance for the Owen County High School Runnin’ Rebels to secure a place in history.
    The Owen County High School boys basketball team entered the game with a chance to become the first team to win back-to-back district titles as well as post consecutive 20-wins seasons for the first time. With their 58-50 win over Eminence, they accomplished both.
