  • County prepares for impending ER closure

    With St. Elizabeth Owen’s impending emergency room closure only weeks away, the Owen County Judge-Executive’s office continues to revise its plans for the county’s future emergency medical care.
     Primary factors in that care include designating Frankfort Regional Medical Center (FRMC) as Owen County’s base care facility and the expanded use of air ambulances.

  • A ‘loud and rowdy’ Fourth of July

    With the Fourth of July approaching, fireworks will soon become a hot commodity as people start to prepare for the national holiday. Owenton is also preparing as Loud and Rowdy Fireworks recently opened its annual fireworks stand.

  • Meeting the Needs relocating, hopes to better serve public

    Throughout the year, many families in or around Owen County need some form of help. Whether it be food, clothes or other commodities, Meeting the Needs was created to help meet the needs of those who may be struggling to make it on their own.
    Meeting the Needs is a ministry-based organization that recently relocated to Highway 22 East in Owenton. The organization helps raise money and donations for their various charities, which includes providing clothes, food and other commodities to people and families who are in need.

    The vendors of the Owen County Farm and Craft Market would like to thank everyone who helped make our second annual farm-to-table dinner a success. For the second year in a row, we have been blessed with a great group of people, delicious food, cooperating weather and an all-around good time.

    Owen County Parks & Rec is offering co-ed and church league softball immediatley following fair week. Forms may be found at www.owencountyparksandrec.com and the $250 team fee is due June 30. They may be turned in or mailed to 100 N. Thomas St., Owenton, KY 40359. For more information, contact the director of both leagues, Tim McIntosh, at (502) 330-6346. A minimum of four teams must sign up with the form and fee for the league to play.

  • Owen sheriff switches to fee-pooling

    Following months of discussion, the Owen County Fiscal Court approved an ordinance for fee-pooling at the Owen County Sheriff’s Office.
    Under a fee-pooling system, the operating budget for the sheriff’s department will be run through the county treasurer in the judge- executive’s office.
