  • Local service announces sign-up period for three conservation initiatives

    USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced that the first of three ranking period cut-off dates for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program Organic, High Tunnel (Hoop Houses) and On-Farm Energy Initiatives is Feb. 3.
    Producers interested in any of these three programs should submit applications to the local NRCS office by the deadline so that their applications can be considered during the first ranking period of 2012.
    The organic initiative will focus on individuals who are currently certified organic or are transitioning to become certified organic.

    Slaughter cows steady to $2 higher, slaughter bulls steady on a light supply. Feeder and feeder heifers $2 to $5 higher.
    Slaughter cows 11-percent of the supply, slaughter bulls two percent, replacements cows 35-percent and feeders 48-percent. The feeder supply included 30-percent steers, 18-percent heifers and 15-percent feeder bulls. 42-percent of the supply weighed over 600 lbs.
    Slaughter Cows Breaker 75-80%: 1,190 lbs.  $63; 1,430 lbs.  $60; 1,545 lbs.  $65.

  • Doyle Devers promoted at United Producers

    Doyle Devers was named facility manager of United Producers Inc. in Owenton, effective Nov. 21, 2011.
    As facility manager, Devers will provide leadership and oversight for the UPI-Owenton operation, facility and staff. He will be responsible for development of customer relationships, customer service, business development and bottom line at the market. Also, he will manage the delivery of all UPI services and programs and maintain a competitive market place for the members of the cooperative.

    Slaughter cows eight percent of the supply; slaughter bulls two percent; replacement cows one percent and feeders 89-percent. The feeder supply included 30 percent steers, 34 percent heifers and 24 percent feeder bulls. 30 percent of the supply weighed over 600 lbs.

    Slaughter cows were 12 percent of the supply; slaughter bulls 2 percent; replacement cows 1 percent; and feeders 85 percent. The feeder supply included 27-percent steers, 36-percent heifers and 20-percent feeder bulls. Twenty-two percent of the supply weighed over 600 lb.
