  • Daughters of the American Revolution visit Keene-Lillard cabin

    The John Guill-Polly Hawkins Craig Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met on June 28 for lunch at Jewels on Main followed by a tour of the Keene-Lillard log cabin in Warsaw, Ky. The two story double pen log house was built between 1810-1815 by American Revolution veteran Charles Lake Keene, from Maryland. He was the ancestor of Chapter Regent, Peggy Trinkle, whose grandmother, Sue Craig McDanell, was born in the house.

    Summer Reading gets in full swing this week! So grab your library card and come in for some good books to pass away the long summer days. Special programming starts today and we have great fun planned for you this year. We are so excited to have the Newport Aquarium help us kick off this year’s program. Once again kids can win fair tickets if they turn in their completed reading log by the end of June. It’s all happening at the library this summer.

    Meeting the Needs closed for renovations
    Meeting the Needs will be closed beginning May 26, and will reopen at its new location, 916 Hwy. 22 E., once work and inspections are complete at the new site in June. Commodities (senior and regular) will be served from the current Long Ridge location June 13.

    Republican meeting set for June 8
    The Owen County Republican meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Smith House Restaurant.

    Valentine’s Tea set for Feb. 9

    The Owen County Homemakers will be sponsoring a Valentine’s Tea at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Owen County Extension Office. Bring your friends and join us for a tea party and try fresh-baked scones and appetizers. Wear your hat and you will be entered for a prize. Call the Owen County Extension Office and purchase your ticket by Feb. 6. The cost is $10 to attend. 

  • Annual CHD Walk for Awareness set for March 4
