  • Owen County WMU holds quarterly winter meeting

    Saturday morning at First Baptist Church in Owenton the Owen County WMU held their Quarterly Winter Meeting. Mandy Holbert blessed the group with her beautiful voice and guitar solo. The New Liberty Baptist Church presented the Prayer Calendar.
    The guest speaker was Shelly Johns of Louisville, Ky. She serves as Women's & Senior Adult Ministry Consultant with Kentucky Baptist Convention. She works closely with WMU and other Christian women throughout the state. She encouraged the group to let "God's Love Shine Brightly."

     Come to the library to follow Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds fitness DVD. This fat-burning fitness program is a gentle and effective form of exercise that helps you burn fat naturally for lasting results.  The event begins at 10 a.m., Friday.
     Suitable for all skill levels, join us at 10:30 a.m., for a yoga class that includes breathing exercises, yoga poses, and relaxation. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a beach towel or exercise mat.

  • Fish and Wildlife working to eradicate shad at Elmer Davis Lake

    Fishing this coming year could improve thanks to the Kentucky Department Of Fish and Wildlife's efforts to eradicate shad on Elmer Davis Lake.
    Shad, a nuisance fish, has become a problem in the lake and efforts are being made to bring back the balance of sport fish for better quality fishing.
    The Lakes 12 foot drawdown process began Oct. 15, with the lake dropping approximately 3 inches a day. The shad eradication began last week.

    Valentine’s Tea set for Feb. 9

    The Owen County Homemakers will be sponsoring a Valentine’s Tea at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Owen County Extension Office. Bring your friends and join us for a tea party and try fresh-baked scones and appetizers. Wear your hat and you will be entered for a prize. Call the Owen County Extension Office and purchase your ticket by Feb. 6. The cost is $10 to attend.

    The FCC Community Food Pantry, 217 W. Seminary St., will be open from 10 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Dec. 14, and Saturday, Dec. 17. To make appointments, call 502-484-3451 or 502-750-3342, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, only. One-hundred appointments will be scheduled.
