  • Parker receives national honor

    The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) announced Owen County High School student Kaitlyn Carol Parker has been selected to become a member of the esteemed organization. The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

    Summer Reading gets in full swing this week! So grab your library card and come in for some good books to pass away the long summer days. Special programming starts today and we have great fun planned for you this year. We are so excited to have the Newport Aquarium help us kick off this year’s program. Once again kids can win fair tickets if they turn in their completed reading log by the end of June. It’s all happening at the library this summer.

    Meeting the Needs closed for renovations
    Meeting the Needs will be closed beginning May 26, and will reopen at its new location, 916 Hwy. 22 E., once work and inspections are complete at the new site in June. Commodities (senior and regular) will be served from the current Long Ridge location June 13.

    Republican meeting set for June 8
    The Owen County Republican meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Smith House Restaurant.

  • Roteract Club begins at Owen County High

    Mike Haines served as our March 6 speaker. Mike provided information on the Alumni Association project. They are looking to raise money for dual credit for students. Right now, 80 kids are enrolled in the program at Owen County High School. They are having a challenge that the graduation class that raises the most money will be recognized.
    On March 13 we had our St. Patrick and membership dinner with 50 individuals present. We had several new members present.

  • Owen County Youth Soccer League searching for board members, coaches for fall season

    The Owen County Youth Soccer League is holding board/officer election at their upcoming annual meeting in June. If you would like to get more involved or just learn more about the league, please contact a board member or Cara Stewart at 859-699-7886.     Remember to enter our first ever photo contest. Use a smartphone or camera (old or new), submit photos that are touched, untouched or retouched — anything! There are two age categories under 18 and 18 and over.
    Submit up to two JPEG images as an email attachment to jchancery.ocpl@gmail.com any time between now and May 1.

  • WMU collects items for REACH, seniors

    On Saturday morning the Owen County Association WMU Spring Quarterly meeting was held at Richland Baptist Church. The meeting started with a fresh boost of sugar from the assortment of pastries, coffee and juice. Everyone in attendance enjoyed the fellowship and pastries.
    Squiresville Baptist, Anna Cook, presented the prayer calendar. Kim and Danny Duvall shared their beautiful talent by bringing the special music. It touched our hearts. Mandy Holbert blessed us with a song on her guitar.
