    State of the City will be given Thursday

    Owenton Mayor David “Milkweed” Wotier will give his annual State of the City address at the Smith House Restaurant Thursday during the Owen County Chamber of Commerce breakfast, scheduled for 7:15 a.m.

    Republican Party to meet Thursday

    The Owen County Republican Party will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, at Smith House Restaurant. The plan is to discuss selection of Republican nominee for PVA and updates on progress of Lincoln Day Dinner plans.

    The Summer Reading Program is all about fitness this year, fitness of mind and body. Keep up your reading schedule and keep your mind fit. Come join us on Wednesdays starting June 1 for body and mind fitness programs. Plus kids get free fair tickets again this year for keeping a reading log and adults can be entered in a contest for really special prizes. Summer fun is going to be cool at the library this year.

    Fish fry to be held for Monterey VFD member

    A fish fry will be held at the Monterey Firehouse at 6 p.m., Saturday, June 4, to benefit for a member for help with medical and surgical bills.

    Tickets for the June 11 alumni association banquet can be purchased at First Farmers Bank, Peoples Bank and Minch Hardware.

    Field Trip to Historic Findlay Market

    Join us as we take a trip north to explore historic Findlay Market in Cincinnati. Our tour will be conducted by one of the city’s best known characters and historians, Jim Tarbell. He will discuss the unique architecture and history of the neighborhood. Lunch will be at your own expense in any of the eateries surrounding the market. Call 502-484-3450 for a reservation to ride in the van or meet us at the library to carpool. We will leave the library at 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 18 and return by 3 p.m.

  • Library to host blood drive May 13

    Area residents are invited to be lifesavers at the upcoming Kentucky Blood Center blood drive.

    The blood drive will be held at from 1-4:30 p.m., Friday, May 13 at the Owen County Public Library inside the community room.

    Donors will receive a non-fasting cholesterol test. Results will be posted within five days after the blood drive at kybloodcenter.org.

    Derby Pancake Breakfast set for May 7

    The annual Mason Odd Fellow Derby Pancake Breakfast will be held from 6-11 a.m., Saturday, May 7, at the Lodge Fellowship Hall in Owenton. There will be a $7 charge for an all you can eat meal with sausage, pancakes and beverages.

    Bessie Sparks Scholarship applications now available

    The Bessie Sparks Scholarship applications are available at Peoples Bank & Trust Company or in the Owen County High School Guidance Counselor’s Office with the deadline being May 10, 2016.
