    The Owen County Senior Center is located at 118 N. Main St., Owenton. Its hours of operation are 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday. The center is managed by Stacey Sipple Long and can be reached at (502) 484-3139.
    If you need a ride to the senior center, call Owen County Public Transit at (502) 750-2828 and schedule when you would like to attend.

    Today (Wednesday): 9 a.m., cards; 1 p.m., Extension office education and nutrition session.

    Thursday, Dec. 3: 9 a.m., games; 1 p.m., Rummy.

    Holiday schedule for Owen County Transfer Station announced
    Free Saturday for December will be Dec. 19. The transfer station will be closed Dec. 25 for Christmas and Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day.

    Festivals Of the World will be celebrated at the library this month and next. This is passive programming that adults and children can participate in at their own pace. We will have passports available for you to make and they will be stamped each week you come in.

    MBMS All Pro Dads to meet today
    MBMS All Pro Dads will meet at 7:45 a.m., today (Wednesday) in the multi-purpose room.  All MBMS students and their dads are invited.  Jonathan McKee will be our guest speaker for the morning. Door prizes will be given, including a pair of UK football tickets. Dads, come enjoy a free breakfast with your student.

    4-H Dog Club Meeting
    From 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Owen County Public Library. This club is open to youth 9-18 years of age, as of Jan. 1, 2016. Youth do not have to have a dog to participate in club. Please check out and read or watch a dog related book or movie from the library to discuss at this meeting.

    Thieves using weatherization pretense to steal

    After an elderly Owen County homeowner was recently robbed, Owen County Sheriff Zemer Hammond is warning Owen Countian’s about the dangers of people posing as “weatherization” workers.
    A woman’s purse was stolen Oct. 26 after she let a man into her home who was posing as a Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission weatherization worker.

  • Fleming Co. author to visit Owen County Public Library

    Author Don Curtis will be at the Owen County Public Library at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16 to discuss his book “Uncommon Valor...Common Virtue: The Franklin R. Sousley Story.”
    Fleming County native, Franklin Sousley, was on Iwo Jima that fateful day, Feb. 19, 1945, where he participated in raising the American flag in the iconic photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal.  
    Meet the author who will impart his knowledge about the Kentucky hero and discover Sousley’s early life growing up in Fleming County and becoming a Marine.  

  • Plans announced for annual Christmas parade

    The Owen County Christmas Parade will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6.
    The theme this year will be “Holiday Traditions.” There will be three categories for the floats: wagon/trailer (large); truck bed and utility vehicles (golf carts, ATVs, etc.)
    Decorations should match the theme and signage should be placed on each side of the float to identify the group.
