    4-H Dog Club Meeting
    From 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Owen County Public Library. This club is open to youth 9-18 years of age, as of Jan. 1, 2016. Youth do not have to have a dog to participate in club. Please check out and read or watch a dog related book or movie from the library to discuss at this meeting.

    Thieves using weatherization pretense to steal

    After an elderly Owen County homeowner was recently robbed, Owen County Sheriff Zemer Hammond is warning Owen Countian’s about the dangers of people posing as “weatherization” workers.
    A woman’s purse was stolen Oct. 26 after she let a man into her home who was posing as a Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission weatherization worker.

  • Fleming Co. author to visit Owen County Public Library

    Author Don Curtis will be at the Owen County Public Library at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16 to discuss his book “Uncommon Valor...Common Virtue: The Franklin R. Sousley Story.”
    Fleming County native, Franklin Sousley, was on Iwo Jima that fateful day, Feb. 19, 1945, where he participated in raising the American flag in the iconic photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal.  
    Meet the author who will impart his knowledge about the Kentucky hero and discover Sousley’s early life growing up in Fleming County and becoming a Marine.  

  • Plans announced for annual Christmas parade

    The Owen County Christmas Parade will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6.
    The theme this year will be “Holiday Traditions.” There will be three categories for the floats: wagon/trailer (large); truck bed and utility vehicles (golf carts, ATVs, etc.)
    Decorations should match the theme and signage should be placed on each side of the float to identify the group.

    Fall harvest festival at Owenton Manor
    The Owenton Manor is having its fall harvest at 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Owenton Manor. There will be a silent auction, live music, a chili supper and other activities. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you have questions, call (502) 484-5721.

    International Foods Workshop
    An International Foods Workshop will be held at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5.
    Mimi Quiroz will be the chef, featuring Mexican-style cuisine. Please call the Owen County Extension Office by Tuesday, Nov. 3 to pre-register at (502) 484-5703.
    New session of classes beginning at adult education
    The next session of classes for adult education will begin Monday, Nov. 9.

    November and December are Amnesty month!  This year we are going to do things a bit differently though. Food for Fines will run November 1 through December 31. For each item donated we will waive  $1 in fines. So if someone you have $10 in fines and you bring in 10 items we will waive all of your fines! The food donated will be given to Meeting the Needs. The food must be nonperishable and can’t be expired.
