    Cinderella's Closet will be March 18
    Cinderella's Closet will be held Saturday, March 18, at the First United Methodist Church, 211 Washington St., Frankfort, KY 40601. Referrals are due by Friday, March 3. Owen County students will need to come to the Youth Services Center at OCHS and fill out a referral form with Becky Mefford or Kim Duvall. Parents and guardians may contact them at (502) 484-4017.

    FCC Community Food Pantry scheduling appointments
    The FCC Community Food Pantry, located at 217 W. Seminary Street, will be open from 10 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, March 15 and Saturday, March 18. To make an appointment call (502) 484-3451 or (502) 229-4705 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., March 14 only. One-hundred appointments will be scheduled.
    Retired teachers to meet at Smith House
    The Owen County Retired Teachers will meet at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, at the Smith House Restaurant. Members are reminded to bring canned food items to donate to Meeting the Needs.

    The library is sponsoring a photography contest from March 15-May 1. Take your best shot and enter our photo contest! Grab your camera or cell phone, snap your picture and email it to us by May 1. We’ll have prizes for the winner and their photo will be the cover page of our May/June community calendar. All entered photos will be on display for an art reception here on May 4. Hit us with your best shot!

  • Prather named DAR Good Citizen

    With the assistance of the Owen County High School, the John Guill – Polly Hawkins Craig Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is proud to announce that Jordan Prather has been chosen to receive the chapter’s 2017 DAR Good Citizen Award.
    The senior selected as “DAR Good Citizen” must have demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

    Owen County Council for the Arts to host Evening of Poetry & Song
    The Owen County Council For the Arts will present Evening of Poetry & Song, from 7-9 p.m., Friday, March 3, at the Wild Goose Cafe.
    Gabriel Fox, Judy Vanarsdale, George Tinsdale, Mark Schimmoeller, Trina Pfeiffer, Wyatt Beard and Hannah Johnson will give poetry readings. Chris Beverly will play music.
    The event is free of charge. Donations are appreciated and will benefit the Owen County Council for the Arts. For information, call (502) 484-3755.

    We welcome special presenter, Cara Stewart, to the Owen County Public Library for this after school program. Those attending will discover fun facts about horses and investigate the many breeds of horses and their unique attributes. The event begins at 3:15 p.m., today (Wednesday).

    Join Miss Susan at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, to enjoy picture books, crafts and fun. Caregivers are an essential part of the experience for the children.

    The 12th Annual CHD Awareness Walk will be from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.,  Saturday, March 4, at the Owenton First Baptist Church. We will have the following Christian groups/individuals providing entertainment and giving testimonies for the day:
    11:00 a.m. — Welcome/opening by Emily Lowe, Bereavement Coordinator for Congenital Heart Network of Greater Cincinnati through the Pediatric Congenital Heart Association, Ohio
