  • John William “Bill” Mason

    John William “Bill” Mason, 90, of Owenton, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the Harborside Healthcare Facility.

    Born March 13, 1918, in Owen County, he was the son of the late William Sanderson and Anna Lee Keith Mason. He was preceded in death by one brother, four half brothers, seven sisters and one half sister. Bill was a retired farmer and a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 50 years.

  • Helen Virginia Edens

    Helen Virginia Edens, 89, died October 17, 2008, at St. Elizabeth South Hospital in Edgewood.

    Born August 25, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Robert Sayle and Mary Virginia Bourne Garvey.

    Mrs. Edens was a retired beautician and postal clerk in Sanders and a member of Sanders Baptist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Douglas Edens and sister, Dorothy Elaine Garvey.

    She is survived by two sons, Robert Benton Edens of Warsaw and Jerry Ray Edens of Latonia.

  • Betty Jean Wells

    Betty Jean Wells, 43, died October 20, 2008, at Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford.

    Born March 27, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Iva Mildred Ginter Cobb. Ms. Wells was a member of Lighthouse Baptist in Nicholasville.

    She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gary Cobb and Freddie Cobb. She is survived by three daughters, Lindsay Nicole Wells, Iva Marie Wells and Amber Faye Wells all of Nicholasville; a brother, John Cobb of Owenton; a sister, Brenda Sue Cook of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

  • Frederick “Freddie” Osborne

    Frederick “Freddie” Osborne, of Owenton, passed away October 11, 2008, at his home.

  • Ruben Lewis Jr

    Ruben Lewis Jr., 82 of Sparta passed away October 1, 2008, at Gallatin Healthcare facility.

    Born August 14, 1926, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Ruben and Ethel Jackson Lewis and was preceded in death by four siblings, Martha Jane Lehman, and Jesse, Charles and Marvin Lewis. Ruben was a farmer, a truck driver and a member of Jonesville United Methodist Church. He was also a WWII Army Veteran.

  • Joe Colson

    Joe Colson, 86, of Corinth, died Setptember 28, 2008, at his residence. He was a dairy farmer and a member of the Antioch Church of Christ, in Corinth. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and past president of the Kentucky Brown Swiss Association. He was a Kentucky Colonel.

  • Marvin Lewis

    Marvin Lewis, 80, of Berne, Ind., died Sept. 27, 2008, at Meadowvale Care Center in Bluffton, Ind.

    Born in Sanders on Jan. 18, 1928, to Ruben and Ethel (Jackson) Lewis, he married twice. He married Dorothy Henderson in Owenton, on July 10, 1948; she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1995. He married Caroline “Sue” Whitacre in Bluffton on March 10, 1996; she survives.

  • Dr. John C. Gunn

    Dr. John C. Gunn, 81, of Perry Park, died September 30, 2008, at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.

    Born May 17, 1927, he was a retired doctor in obstetrics and gynecology with Giglia, O’Conner and Gunn Medical Practice and was an Army Veteran of WWII.

  • Beulah Mae Combs

    Beulah Mae Combs, 76, of Willisburg and formerly of Owenton, passed away October 1, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

    Born September 12, 1932, in Owenton, she was the daughter of the late John Willie and Hallie Herndon Chipman. Mrs. Combs was a homemaker and a member of the Grapevine Christian Church.

  • Douglas M. Wright

    Douglas M. Wright, 66, of Marysville, Ohio, formerly of New Columbus, died September 24, 2008, at his home.

    He was a truck driver for 33 years with Consolidated Freightways, a landscaper and gardener.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Burgess and Melissa Wright; a brother, Tom Wright; a sister, Betty Mallory; and several half sisters and half brothers.
