  • Dr. Henry Lamar Adams

    Dr. Henry Lamar Adams, 90, died at his home Aug. 22, 2008. He was born Nov. 26, 1917, to Henry Albert Adams and Frances Jirels Adams. Henry graduated valedictorian from high school in Owenton in 1934. He completed his B.A. at the University of Kentucky in 1938. He married his college sweetheart, Frances Elois Sadler, on Aug. 24, 1941. Their only child, Catherine Lamar Adams, was born on Feb. 23, 1943.

  • Virginia Kersey Johnson

    Virginia Kersey Johnson, 94, died October 19, 2008, at New Horizons Medical Center. Born February 14, 1914, she was the only child of the late James and Maude Kersey of Worthville, and the widow of Lawrence Johnson.

    Mrs. Johnson was a teacher and a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard and flowers, traveling and she did exquisite needlework, which she passed on to a lot of her friends.

    She is survived by her good friends, Ann Cook, Vicki and Danny Gortney, Kara Kistner and a host of cousins.

  • Hugh Scott Keith

    Hugh Scott Keith, 83, died October 20, 2008, in Owen County. Son of the late John Irvin and Roxie Lee Poland Keith, he served in the Navy during World War II, retired from Owen Electric and was a member of First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 128.

    He is survived by his wife, Annette Smith Keith; a son, Mike (Kathy) Keith of Owenton; a daughter, Sandy (Steve) Small of Owenton; a brother, Marvin Keith of Owenton; a sister, Ruth Furnish of Frankfort; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

  • Shirlene French

    Shirlene French, 72, died October 13, 2008, at her home in Warsaw. She was the widow of former Circuit Clerk and Gallatin County Sheriff, Charles “Chick” French. Together they owned and operated Moon River Restaurant and the Brown Hotel in the 1960s. She was later employed by Square D Corporation, from which she retired. She was a member of Paint Lick Baptist Church, and she is known for her kindness and generosity.

  • John William “Bill” Mason

    John William “Bill” Mason, 90, of Owenton, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the Harborside Healthcare Facility.

    Born March 13, 1918, in Owen County, he was the son of the late William Sanderson and Anna Lee Keith Mason. He was preceded in death by one brother, four half brothers, seven sisters and one half sister. Bill was a retired farmer and a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 50 years.

  • Helen Virginia Edens

    Helen Virginia Edens, 89, died October 17, 2008, at St. Elizabeth South Hospital in Edgewood.

    Born August 25, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Robert Sayle and Mary Virginia Bourne Garvey.

    Mrs. Edens was a retired beautician and postal clerk in Sanders and a member of Sanders Baptist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Douglas Edens and sister, Dorothy Elaine Garvey.

    She is survived by two sons, Robert Benton Edens of Warsaw and Jerry Ray Edens of Latonia.

  • Betty Jean Wells

    Betty Jean Wells, 43, died October 20, 2008, at Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford.

    Born March 27, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Iva Mildred Ginter Cobb. Ms. Wells was a member of Lighthouse Baptist in Nicholasville.

    She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gary Cobb and Freddie Cobb. She is survived by three daughters, Lindsay Nicole Wells, Iva Marie Wells and Amber Faye Wells all of Nicholasville; a brother, John Cobb of Owenton; a sister, Brenda Sue Cook of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

  • Ruben Lewis Jr

    Ruben Lewis Jr., 82 of Sparta passed away October 1, 2008, at Gallatin Healthcare facility.

    Born August 14, 1926, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Ruben and Ethel Jackson Lewis and was preceded in death by four siblings, Martha Jane Lehman, and Jesse, Charles and Marvin Lewis. Ruben was a farmer, a truck driver and a member of Jonesville United Methodist Church. He was also a WWII Army Veteran.

  • Joe Colson

    Joe Colson, 86, of Corinth, died Setptember 28, 2008, at his residence. He was a dairy farmer and a member of the Antioch Church of Christ, in Corinth. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and past president of the Kentucky Brown Swiss Association. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
