  • Wanda Wilhoite Works

    Wanda Wilhoite Works, 69, of Lusby’s Mill, passed away Jan. 27, 2009, at St Luke Hospital in Florence.

    Born Nov. 9, 1939, in Monterey, she was the daughter of the late David E. and Gladys Marie Tillet Wilhoite and was the widow of Glenn Tolbert Works. Wanda was a retired social worker for Owenton Social Services.

    Wanda is survived by a son, David Wilhoite and his wife Connie; three grandchildren, Shaun (Taylor) Wilhoite, Jessica Wilhoite and Sarah Wilhoite; and one great-grandson, Sawyer Davis Wilhoite.

  • Mary Lou Webster

    Mary Lou (Judy) Webster, 74, a resident of Greenfield, Ind., passed away Jan. 28, 2009, at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.

    She was born Sept. 20, 1934, in Owenton and was the daughter of the late Owen and Mallie (Lathrem) Judy.

    Mary was an office manager for OA Laboratories in Indianapolis. She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield.

  • Ben F. Thompson

    Ben F. Thompson, 102, died Dec. 12, 2008, at Harborside Healthcare. Born Nov. 2, 1906, to Robert and Martha Jenkins Thompson of Owen County, he was a farmer and member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

    He is preceded in death by his wife, Minni Mae Rice Thompson; his son, J.B. Thompson; sisters, Nettie Layton, Sadie Morgan, Virgie Morgan, Lula McCormick and Bertha Corman.

    Mr. Thompson is survived by a son, Carl Thompson of Frankfort; a granddaughter, Jennifer Elliott and husband Tony; and a great-grandchild, Jaden Elliott.

  • Mildred Anne Byrne

    Mildred Anne Byrne, 79, of Owenton, died Jan. 4, 2009, at Owenton Manor.

    Born Feb. 20, 1929, in Covington, she was the daughter of the late William and Mildred Feigle Hellmann, and she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jacquelyn Tennant.

    Mrs. Byrne was a retired account services representative for U.S. Bank in Northern Kentucky.

  • William F. Butcher

    William F. Butcher, 77, of Carrollton, died Dec. 15, 2008, at Gallatin Health Care. He was the son of the late William N. and Mattie Hunt Butcher. He was the husband of Thelma Hughes Butcher of Carrollton. Mr. Butcher was a farmer and an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

    He is also survived by a son, Steve Butcher of Carrollton; a daughter, Peggy Black of Campbellsburg; a brother, Elbert A. Butcher of Vine Grove; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

    Graveside services were held Dec. 20, 2008, at Owenton Cemetery.

  • Evelyn Slaughter

    Evelyn White Slaughter, 90, of Owenton, died Dec. 24, 2008, at St. Luke West in Florence.

    Born April 2, 1918, in Aberdeen, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Stella Sutton White. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; a brother, Jack; and two sisters, Anna and Frances.

    She is survived by a son, Marvin, and his wife, Linda of Florence, S.C.; a daughter, Betty Jo, and her husband, Harold Wainscott of Owenton; a sister, Alice Ramsey of Williamsburg, Ohio; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

  • Herschel O’Banion

    Herschel Wayne O’Banion, 52, of Owenton, died Dec. 26, 2008, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

    Born February 1956, he was the son of the late William Henry O’Banion and Ethel Jean Howard. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Perkins.

    Wayne was a retired employee of the University of Kentucky Experimental Farm (Central Bull Test) located at Eden Shale in Owen County.

  • Mary F. Crawford

    Mary F. Crawford, 75, of Cambellsburg, died Dec. 22, 2008. Daughter of the late Twyman and Mary Catherine (Johnson) Bramblett, she was a homemaker. Mary was also preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Woods; and a brother, Roy G. Bramblett.

  • Frances Arnold

    Frances Arnold, 86, died Dec. 11, 2008, at the Episcopal Church Home. She was born in Greenville, Texas, on Sept. 14, 1922.

    She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club, and a longtime member of Farmdale Church Home.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Beebe Arnold, and their daughter, Beebe Carol.

  • Doug E. Manley

    Doug E. Manley, 47, of Sanders, died Dec. 13, 2008. Born July 4, 1961, in Owen County, to Eugene and Sylvia Manley, he was a member of Sanders Baptist Church.

    He is preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Tolbert; and a niece, Tasha Tolbert.

    Survivors include his wife, Connie Lewis Manley; three children, Terra Scruggs of Carrollton, Cassie James of Carrollton and Ethan Manley of Carrollton; and a sister, Denise Abercrombie of Sanders.
