  • Glenn Thomas Wright

    Glenn Thomas Wright, 85, of Georgetown, formerly of Corinth, died March 3, 2009, at his residence.

    He was born in Owen County, retired from General Motors Corp. in Norwood, Ohio, and was a member and elder with Ray’s Fork Primitive Baptist Church in Corinth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wright, in 1989.

    He is survived by a brother, Gayle Wright of Georgetown.

    Services were held March 7, 2009, at McDaniel Funeral Home with Elder Darrell Risner officiating. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery.

  • Raymond “Pete” Johnson

    Raymond “Pete” Johnson, age 78, widower of Martha Vermillion Johnson, died March 6, 2009, at his home.

    He was born in Scott County on Jan. 10, 1931, to the late Raymond and Katie Moss Johnson Sr. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ireane, Lena and Alice.

  • Danny Beckham

    Danny Kay Beckham, 55, of  Glencoe, died Feb. 24, 2009, at his home.

    Born Nov. 19, 1953, he was the son of the late Clarence “Whitey” Beckham and Edna Mae Dempsey. Danny was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Ricky Beckham.

    Danny worked for the state of Kentucky as a diesel mechanic.

    He is survived by his wife, Ina Airington Beckham; two sons, Paul Beckham and Daniel Sydney Beckham, both of Glencoe; one sister, Beverly Jody Minch of Owenton; and three grandchildren, Kaleb, Kylie, and Kandyn Beckham.

  • Richard T. Kemper

    Richard Thomas Kemper, 94, of Monterey, passed away Feb. 27, 2009, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

    Born Oct. 20, 1914, in his family’s log home on Pond Branch, he was the son of the late Gayle Kemper and Irene Thomas Kemper Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reva Rae Williams Kemper.

    He was a graduate of Monterey High School. Richard was a Greyhound bus driver, retiring after 38 years of service in 1972 to farm. He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church and te Owen Masonic Lodge #123 F & AM.

  • Ralph Poe

    Ralph Poe, 91, of Owenton, passed away Feb. 25, 2009, at Owenton Manor.

    Born March 17, 1917, he was the son of the late Charlie and Mary Jane O’Banion Poe. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Alton, Alva, Thurston and Willie Poe; and two sisters, Octavia Acree and Sylvia Fortner.

    Ralph was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was also a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

  • Owen James Utley

    Owen James Utley, 2,  Ghent died Feb. 27, 2009.

    Owen was the son of and son of Shannon D. Hafer of Ghent and the late Mike Utley.

    Owen is also survived by his grandparents, Sharon Hafer of Sanders, Beverly Adams of Glencoe, and Jimmy and Sue O’Connor of Sparta; a brother, A.J. Sebastian of Erlanger.

  • Christine Sullivan

    Christine Marie Duncan Sullivan, 83, died Feb. 16, 2009, at the Gallatin Health Center. She was the wife of the late James Sullivan and the daughter of the late Jesse and Betty Duncan. She was also preceded in death by her half-sister, Clara Marksberry.

    Christine was a homemaker and a member of Warsaw Baptist Church.

    She is survived by her daughter, Janet Sullivan of Warsaw; two sons, James G. and Howard B. Sullivan, both of Verona; two grandsons, Kevin and Rodney Sullivan of Warsaw;  and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

  • Joseph Humble

    Joseph Humble, 74, died Feb. 23, 2009.

    Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garnett-New-McDonald Funeral Home in Warsaw. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.

  • Sherman H. McClain

    Sherman H. McClain, 93, died Feb. 18, 2009, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Ill.

    Sherman was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Shelbyville to Chester and Frona (Hornbach) McClain. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Leota Ayres and Elizabeth Zappa; and an infant brother. From 1923 to 1950 he lived in New Liberty, farming and helping in McClain’s Grocery. 

    He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Elder McClain  of Olney; a niece, Elizabeth Prewitt of New Liberty; two great-nieces, Suzanne Arnold and Dawn Davis; and a great-nephew, Edward Arnold.

  • Margie Mason Hammond

    Margie Mason Hammond, 86, of Owenton, died Feb. 13, 2009, at Owenton Manor. Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Artie Nash Mason and the widow of George Andrew Hammond. She was also preceded by a great-grandson, Charlie Miller. Margie was a homemaker and a member of Canby Tabernacle.
