• Oscar Perkins Jr.

    Oscar Perkins Jr., 78, of Owenton, died May 20, 2009, at his home.

    He was a carpenter, farmer and a member of Owenton First Baptist Church.

    He is survived by his wife, Alice Thornton Perkins; two sons, Danny Perkins of Owenton, and Jim Perkins and wife Angela of Owenton; three daughters, Sherri Young, Teresa Perkins, and Lisa Perkins, all of Owenton; and a brother, Donald Perkins of Edgewood.

    Services were held May 22, 2009, at McDonald & New Funeral Home. Bural was at I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

  • Hollie B. Clifton

    Hollie B. Clifton, 82, of Jonesville, died May 20, 2009.

    Born Jan. 23, 1927, in the Brush Creek community of Owen County, he was the son of the late Garnet B. and Ella Harrington Clifton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict; a retired shipping operator for U.S Steel Co. in Blue Ash, Ohio; and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Jonesville.

  • Samuel Eugene Robinson

    Samuel Eugene Robinson

    Samuel Eugene Robinson, 87, passed away, May 9, 2009, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. He was a retired coach, superintendent and had 30 plus years as a school administrator. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, VFW 4075th, and many charitable and civic organizations.

    A native of Owen County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ava Belle Mefford Robinson.

  • Michael Atha

    Harold Michael “Mike” Atha, 59, died April 26, 2009.

    Born Oct. 10, 1949, in Franklin County, Mr. Atha was a graduate of Franklin County High School and Kentucky State University. He was an employee of the Department of Fish and Wildlife, a member of the National Angus Association, Frankfort-Franklin County Farmers Association, Distillers Union, and St. Johns Baptist Church. During his youth, he was a member of Boy Scout Troop 281.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Ranzel Atha; and a brother, Charles D. Atha.

  • James Winford White

    James Winford White, 78, of Bloomfield, died April 26, 2009, at his residence. He was retired from Kraft Foods with 25 years of service in Owenton and Berryville, Ariz., a self-employed contractor, and skilled woodworker. James was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a deacon of Chaplin Baptist Church.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Victor and Stella Mae Yates White; a daughter, Diann White; and a sister, Clara Cardenas.

  • James Edward Thomas

    James Edward “Jimmie” Thomas, 72, of Sparta, died April 30, 2009, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

    Born March 28, 1937, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Smith Edward and Lucille Noel Thomas, and he was also preceded in death by his son, Jamie Thomas.

    Jimmie was a landscaper, farmer, Kentucky Colonel and a member of Sparta Baptist Church.

    He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy Young Thomas; and his son, Jimmie Dick Thomas, both of Sparta.

  • Bernard Ray Hammond

    Bernard Ray Hammond, 71, of Williamstown, formerly of Owenton, died April 27, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center in Edgewood.

    He was a maintenance employee of Continental Web Press, Inc. of Richwood and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Owenton.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Vasty Hammond and Nora McCain Hammond Clifton.

  • Kenneth Raymond Smith

    Kenneth Raymond Smith, 83, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Owenton, died April 20, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    He was a native of Ludlow and a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a local businessman and co-owned the Treasure Chest.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Hallie and Birda Ellen Kennman Smith; and five brothers, Howard, Walker Ray, Robert L., Melvin O., and Jerry Smith.

  • Mary Ann Kluemper

    Mary Ann Kluemper, 71, of Sparta, died April 23, 2009, at the Gallatin Health Care.

    Mary Ann was a former clerk and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Warsaw.

    She is survived by her husband, Jim Kluemper; two sons, James “Jim” Kluemper Jr. of Ft. Wright, and Joe Kluemper of Wilmington, Ohio; two daughters, Julie Bowling of Florence, and Jenne Finley of Erlanger; and seven grandchildren.

    Funeral Mass was held April 25, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Warsaw. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

  • Kathy Fisher Higgins

    Kathy Fisher Higgins, 45, of Owenton died April 23, 2009, at University of Kentucky Hospital. She was a sales clerk and a member of the Kentucky Motorcycle Association.

    She was preceded in death by her father, Lowell Fisher.

    Survivors include her mother, Sadie Beach Stuedle of Dry Ridge; her stepfather, John Stuedle of Dry Ridge; a daughter, Ruby Higgins of Dry Ridge; and a sister, Diana Marty-Collins of Dry Ridge.

    Funeral services were held April 26, 2009. Burial was in New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.
