  • Ada Pauline “Judy” Smith

    Ada Pauline “Judy” Smith, 69, died June 15, 2009. She was born March 5, 1940, in Russell County, Virginia to the late John Carson and Gladys J. (Kaiser) Hagy. Judy was a homemaker and cherished time spent with her family. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W and the F.O.E. # 211 Auxiliary.

    Survivors include a daughter, Melody Smith; two sons-in-law, Bob Mitchell and Peter J. Delisle Jr.; two grandchildren, Tasha Norris and Joseph Mitchell; and siblings, Ralph Hagy, Glenna Spivey, Earl Hagy and Mary Sue Alexander.

  • Mildred Martin

    Mildred Schooler Martin, 102, of Owenton, died June 18, 2009, at Owenton Manor.

    Born Nov. 1, 1906, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Thornley and Dora Edmunson Schooler and was preceded in death by her husband, Guthrie Martin; her son, James Schooler Martin; her daughter, Alfreda Martin; three brothers, Ralph, Stanley, and Norman Schooler; her sisters, Freda Wilson and Rachael Schooler; her nephew, Charles Schooler; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. 

    Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

  • Ralph M. Herald

    Ralph M. Herald, 85, of Worthville, died June 18, 2009, at King’s Daughter’s Hospital in Madison, Ind. Born June 17, 1924, to Elmer and Olia Breeden Herald of Owen County, he worked as a corrections officer at Kentucky State Reformatory in LaGrange, was a former employee of Rich Ladder in Carrollton, and retired from M&T Chemical Co. of Carrollton. He was former member of Worthville Volunteer Fire Department, was an avid motorcycle rider, and a member of Dean Memorial United Methodist Church in Worthville. He served in the Army during World War II.

  • Roy C. McCormick

    Roy C. McCormick, 76, of Owen County, died May 30, 2009, at Owenton Manor. Roy was the son of the late Ernest and Anna Bramblett McCormick. He was the husband of Sarah Florence Renfro McCormick. Roy was a farmer and a member of the Elk Lick Baptist Church. He was also a veteran.

  • Mario Antonio Robles

    Mario Antonio Robles, 24, of Owenton, died June 21, 2009, at New Horizons Medical Center.

    He was born Jan. 19, 1985, in Casa Blanco, HGO Mexico. He was an employee of Elk Creek Winery where he was instrumental in daily operations. Mario was a member of the Catholic faith. 

  • Richard Dunavent Sr.

    Richard Layne “Rick” Dunavent Sr., 58, of Frankfort, died from pancreatic cancer June 11, 2009, at his home, attended by his wife, Billie M. Sebastian Dunavent, and mother, Marie Frances Dunavent, of Owenton.  He is also survived by two daughters, Jessica Leigh Lovins and spouse J.R.

  • Juanita Watkins

    Juanita Frances Humphrey Watkins, 81, died June 12, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center.

    She was the daughter of the late Russell and Sue Ruggles Humphrey. She was the widow of William Ralph Watkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Sparta Baptist Church.

     She is survived by her two sons, James “Jim” Watkins of Lanesville, Ind., and Tom Watkins of Sparta; her daughter, Pat VonBokern of Sparta; one brother, Daniel Martin Hamilton of Iola, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

  • Buford Wainscott

    Buford “Boots” Wainscott, 93, of Williamstown, died June 11, 2009, at the Owenton Manor Health Care Facility in Owenton. Born in Owen County, he was the son of Willie B. and Adah Stamper Wainscott. He was a farmer and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Grant County.

    He is survived by two daughters, Ella Crosswaite of Williamstown and Rose Dunn of Berry; three sons, William Wainscott of Dry Ridge, Gene Wainscott of Williamstown, and Wayne Wainscott of Willliamstown; one brother, Jimmie Wainscott of Owenton; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

  • Charles L. Mertz

    Charles L. Mertz, 65, of Owenton, formerly of New Castle, died June 4, 2009, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

    He was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Maudie (Frazier) Mertz; two grandchildren, Leslie Nicole and Tonya Renea Mertz; and a sister, Mary Lee Mertz.
