  • Nancey Briscoe

    Nancey Jane Briscoe, 60, of Pleasureville, died July 15, 2009, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

    She was born in Owen County, the daughter of the late Paul J. and Pearlie Mae O’Banion Jones. She was a member of Lockport Baptist Church, worked 25 years as an engineer for South Central Bell and belonged to the Union Baptist Church Book Club.

  • Elva G. Jones Harris

    Elva G. Jones Harris, 87, of Covington and formerly of Walton, died July 13, 2009, at Bridgepoint Nursing Care of Florence.

    She was a homemaker and member of Walton Baptist Church. Her husband, James Harris, died in 1968. Survivors include four sons, Douglas Howard of Pinellas Park, Fla., James Smith of Covington, Dennis Paul Jones of Owenton, and Danny Harris of Versailles, Ind.; a brother, Orlie Jones of Corinth; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 18, 2009. Burial was in Owenton Cemetery.

  • Josephine Hammonds

    Josephine “Josie” Hammonds, 79, of Sanders, died June 30, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.

    Born Sept. 10, 1929, in Boone County, she was the daughter of the late Goebel and Stella Gordy Hensley and was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Hammonds. Josie was a homemaker and a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

  • Darlene Cordray

    Darlene Scudder Cordray, 50, died July 18, 2009, at the U.K. Medical Center.

    She was born Oct. 16, 1958, the daughter of the late Paul and Virginia Barnett Scudder. In recent years, Darlene was a caregiver and devoted herself to families who needed someone to help during the final stages of their loved one’s life. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

  • Tommy Lee Kinman

    Tommy Lee Kinman, 67, died July 5, 2009, at his residence in Lexington.

    He was born March 18, 1942, to the late Perry and Molly Rector Kinman of Warsaw. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Iva Dean; and a brother, Charles Kinman.

  • Harold Brown Connely Weldon

    Harold Brown Connely Weldon, 90, of Warsaw, died June 30, 2009, at Gallatin Health Care.

    She was the daughter of the late Frank S. and Nannie Brown Weldon. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Katherine Carabella and Margaret Weldon; and one sister, Mary C. Hall. She was married to the late Dr. Thomas A. Weldon.

    She was a member of  Warsaw Christian Church, a homemaker, a former teacher, and a WWII Army Veteran – WAC, Women’s Army Corp/Signal Corp.

  • Ruby McDanell

    Ruby “Sug” McDanell, 71, of Owenton, passed away July 3, 2009, at the home of her daughter.

    Born Aug. 31, 1937, in Oldham County, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Lorraine Coons Yochum and was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Bill” McDanell. 

    Sug was a graduate of Oldham County High School; retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Labor Cabinet; and was a member of Owenton First Methodist Church where she was a pianist for many years.

  • Anna Mae Donnelly

    Anna Mae Donnelly, 72, of Sparta, passed away July 1, 2009, at New Horizons Medical Center.

    Born Dec. 22, 1936, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruby Wheeler Davis and was preceded in death by her son, Vernon Marshall Donnelly. Anna was a homemaker and a member of New Liberty Christian Church.

  • Dorothy J. Young

    Dorothy J. Young, 82, of Owenton, died June 23, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.

    Born Oct. 13, 1926, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Yancey and Gladys Conover Poteet and was preceded in death by her son, Donald Ray Young. Dorothy was retired from Schlumberger and had also worked at Scholl’s Shoe Factory. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

  • Jim Gibson

    Jim Gibson, 63, of New Columbus, died June 28, 2009, at his residence. He was a retired brick mason and a member of New Columbus Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also co-owner of D-J Amusements.

    He is survived by his wife, Donna Hall Gibson; three daughters, Kelley Perry and Angel Young, both of Corinth, and Lisa Newman of Williamstown; a sister, Priscilla Marshall of Frankfort; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
