  • Paul Elliston Jr.

    Paul Elliston Jr., 53, of Frankfort, died Sept. 24, 2009, in Frankfort .

    A native of Lawrenceburg, he was born Dec. 8, 1955, to Mary Evelyn Best Cooke and the late Paul Thomas Elliston Sr. He was a former employee of Rand McNally. “Coach” Elliston coached the Lady Wolverines of Western Hills, AAU basketball teams, and the Bondurant Lady Braves basketball team.

  • Alene Sutton Herndon

    Alene Sutton Herndon, 91, of Warsaw, died Sept. 17, 2009, at the Gallatin Health Care Center in Warsaw.

    Born August 1918, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Cora Sisson Sutton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Herndon; a son, Kenneth Ray Herndon; and a granddaughter, Angela Burns Hoffman.

    Alene was a homemaker and member of Warsaw Baptist Church.

  • Owen P. Ashcraft Sr.

    Owen P. Ashcraft Sr., 87, of Owenton died Sept. 14, 2009, at Owenton Manor.

    Born Nov. 20, 1921, he was the son of the late Elmer and Grace Hicks Ashcraft and was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Stewart; a grandson, Donald Patrick Ashcraft; and three siblings, Roy Melvin Ashcraft, Lauretta Judy and Bessie Mae Smith.

  • Thomas J. Cobb

    Thomas J. Cobb, 86, died Sept. 15, 2009, in Shelbyville.

  • Mary C. Dawson

    Mary Chisholm Dawson, 74, of Frankfort, died Sept. 14, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital, Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

    Mary was born July 10, 1935, in Pleasureville to the late David and Nora Chisholm. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Chisholm; and three sisters, Jessie Orhood, Naomi Ethington and Rosa Hughes.

  • Terry Lynn Sharon

    Firefighter Terry Lynn Sharon, 60, of Monterey, died Sept. 13, 2009, in the line of duty.

    Born Jan. 22, 1949, in Covington, he was the son of the late Leslie B. and Dorothy Sharon. Terry was a devoted member of the Monterey Volunteer Fire Department.

    He is survived by his girlfriend, Brenda Cox Bright of Frankfort; his half brother, David Sharon of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four cousins, Mark and Andy Rollins, and Larry and Dennis Sharon; an aunt, Margaret Rollins; an uncle, Pete Sharon; and a host of friends. 

  • Elizabeth A. Doane

    Elizabeth A. Doane, 78, of Frankfort, died Sept. 19, 2009, at Golden Living Center.

    She was born in Carter County, the daughter of the late Herdie Hall and Ethel Utley Roop. A sister, Kathleen Wilhoite, also preceded her in death.

    She was a homemaker and member of Camp Pleasant Baptist Church.

    Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Ellis of Frankfort; a son, Chuck Doane of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Tammy and Ami Ellis and Zachary Doane; four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Charlie and Rhealee; and one great-great-granddaughter, Hannah.

  • Anna K. Cook

    Anna K. Cook, 63, of Owenton, died Sept. 11, 2009, at the UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. 

    Born June 17, 1946, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of the late Frank Beard Greenwell and Lena Mae Goodlett Guill and was also preceded in death by her great-grandsons, Justin Kent Renfro and Jacob Renfro. Anna was a homemaker, a member of Greenup Fork Baptist Church, and attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

  • Franklin D. Jordan Sr.

    Franklin D. Jordan Sr., 62, of Wheatley, died Sept. 5, 2009, in Carroll County.

    Born May 13, 1947, in Louisville to Mary K. Stewart Jordan and the late Orval F. Jordan, he was a retired minister and member of New Liberty Baptist Church.

    He is survived by his mother; two sons, Franklin D. Jordan Jr. and Joshua E. Jordan, both of Louisville; a daughter, Kimberly Nictora of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held Sept. 10, 2009, with the Rev. Emory Eldridge officiating.

    Burial was in Port Royal Cemetery.

  • Guy J. LeBeau

    Guy J. LeBeau, 76, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Kentucky, died Sept. 5, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.

    Guy was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Montreal, Canada, the son of George and Yvonne Girouard LeBeau. He married Helen Gwin on Nov. 20, 1976.

    Guy retired from Sprague Meter after 30 years of service, in 1996. He transferred to Owenton in 1979 and moved back to Iowa in 2008.
