  • Anthony Collins

    Anthony Collins, 54, of Sparta, passed Oct. 12, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas.

    Born Aug. 16, 1955, in Magoffin County, he was the son of the late David Collins and was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy and Van Collins.

    Anthony was a former factory worker and member of New Liberty Baptist Church.

  • Climmie Rice Hammond

    Climmie Rice Hammond, 92, of Owenton, passed away Oct. 17, 2009, at St. Luke Hospital in Florence.

    She was born in Owen County, the daughter of the late Millard and Lizzie Chowning Rice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hammond Sr.; a son, Albert Hammond Jr.; an infant daughter, Judy Belle Hammond; three sisters, Minnie Mae Thompson, Laura Romans Parker and Cora Booth Richerson; and four brothers, Omer, Thomas, Lewis and William Rice. She was a homemaker and member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

  • Edna Mae Baker Giles

    Edna Mae Baker Giles, 83, of Owenton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.

    Born July 3, 1926, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ruby Garvey Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Giles; her daughter, Lorraine Snow; and a granddaughter, Bobbie J. Brewer.

  • Sophie Gracelynn Lewis

    Sophie Gracelynn Lewis, infant daughter of Sam and Shawna Beckham Lewis, passed away Oct. 13, 2009, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

    Sophie is survived by her parents; her brothers, Lucas Cogan Wilson and David Grayson Lewis, both of Sparta; maternal grandparents, Patricia Beckham of Worthville, and Charles and Leeann Beckham of Ghent; and paternal grandparents, Johnny Roger and Windola Ann Lewis of Olive Hill.

    Graveside services were held Oct. 19, 2009, in Owenton Cemetery.

    Marilyn Scott, 53, of Corinth, died Oct. 15, 2009, at St. Elizabeth South in Edgewood.

    She was an employee of the Crittenden Shell Service Station and a member of Cherry Grove Penecostal Church in Williamstown.

    Pamela Tolbert Duncan Mertz, 47, of Owenton, passed away Oct. 6, 2009, at her residence.

    Born Oct. 23, 1961, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late James Tolbert and was preceded in death by her son, Brian Scott Duncan; her brothers, Chris and Wayne Tolbert; and her sister, Virginia Tolbert. Pam was a homemaker and a member of South Fork Baptist Church.

  • Jean “Careyon” Lewis

    Jean “Careyon” Lewis, 60, of Owenton, passed away Oct. 10, 2009, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.

    Born Dec. 10, 1948, in Frankfort, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Mary Jean Hall Sipple. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ryan Lewis; and a granddaughter, Ashleigh New. Careyon was a hairdresser at Touch of Polish.

  • Atwood Ayres

    Atwood Ayres, 88, of Owenton, passed from this Earth in the early afternoon, Sept. 28, 2009, at the Gallatin County Healthcare in Warsaw, from an extended illness.

    Atwood was born Jan.10, 1921. the son of A.W. and Allie Mae Martin Ayres. Preceding him in death were his mother and father; a brother, Gerald Ayres; and two sons, Carol David and Johnny Ayres. Atwood was a long-standing member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

    Helen Mae Briggs, 75, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

    A native of Franklin County, she was born April 5, 1934. She was a homemaker, a retired state employee and a member of North Frankfort Baptist Church. 

  • Dr. Charles Calvin “C.C.” Arnold

    Dr. Charles Calvin “C.C.” Arnold, age 87, of Owenton, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Gallatin County Healthcare following an extended illness.

    Born March 25, 1922, in Squiresville, he was the son of the late Ira Lee and Ruth Azalee Reeve Arnold. He was the widower of Hazel Jo Smith Arnold whom he married on Feb. 10, 1956; he was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Calvin Arnold;  a brother, Ira Lee Arnold Jr.;  a sister, Eleanor Reeve Ogden; and a granddaughter, Jenna.
