  • Jean “Careyon” Lewis

    Jean “Careyon” Lewis, 60, of Owenton, passed away Oct. 10, 2009, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.

    Born Dec. 10, 1948, in Frankfort, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Mary Jean Hall Sipple. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ryan Lewis; and a granddaughter, Ashleigh New. Careyon was a hairdresser at Touch of Polish.

  • Atwood Ayres

    Atwood Ayres, 88, of Owenton, passed from this Earth in the early afternoon, Sept. 28, 2009, at the Gallatin County Healthcare in Warsaw, from an extended illness.

    Atwood was born Jan.10, 1921. the son of A.W. and Allie Mae Martin Ayres. Preceding him in death were his mother and father; a brother, Gerald Ayres; and two sons, Carol David and Johnny Ayres. Atwood was a long-standing member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

  • Helen Mae Briggs

    Helen Mae Briggs, 75, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

    A native of Franklin County, she was born April 5, 1934. She was a homemaker, a retired state employee and a member of North Frankfort Baptist Church. 

  • Dr. Charles Calvin “C.C.” Arnold

    Dr. Charles Calvin “C.C.” Arnold, age 87, of Owenton, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Gallatin County Healthcare following an extended illness.

    Born March 25, 1922, in Squiresville, he was the son of the late Ira Lee and Ruth Azalee Reeve Arnold. He was the widower of Hazel Jo Smith Arnold whom he married on Feb. 10, 1956; he was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Calvin Arnold;  a brother, Ira Lee Arnold Jr.;  a sister, Eleanor Reeve Ogden; and a granddaughter, Jenna.

  • Paul Elliston Jr.

    Paul Elliston Jr., 53, of Frankfort, died Sept. 24, 2009, in Frankfort .

    A native of Lawrenceburg, he was born Dec. 8, 1955, to Mary Evelyn Best Cooke and the late Paul Thomas Elliston Sr. He was a former employee of Rand McNally. “Coach” Elliston coached the Lady Wolverines of Western Hills, AAU basketball teams, and the Bondurant Lady Braves basketball team.

  • Alene Sutton Herndon

    Alene Sutton Herndon, 91, of Warsaw, died Sept. 17, 2009, at the Gallatin Health Care Center in Warsaw.

    Born August 1918, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Cora Sisson Sutton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Herndon; a son, Kenneth Ray Herndon; and a granddaughter, Angela Burns Hoffman.

    Alene was a homemaker and member of Warsaw Baptist Church.

  • Owen P. Ashcraft Sr.

    Owen P. Ashcraft Sr., 87, of Owenton died Sept. 14, 2009, at Owenton Manor.

    Born Nov. 20, 1921, he was the son of the late Elmer and Grace Hicks Ashcraft and was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Stewart; a grandson, Donald Patrick Ashcraft; and three siblings, Roy Melvin Ashcraft, Lauretta Judy and Bessie Mae Smith.

  • Thomas J. Cobb

    Thomas J. Cobb, 86, died Sept. 15, 2009, in Shelbyville.

  • Mary C. Dawson

    Mary Chisholm Dawson, 74, of Frankfort, died Sept. 14, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital, Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

    Mary was born July 10, 1935, in Pleasureville to the late David and Nora Chisholm. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Chisholm; and three sisters, Jessie Orhood, Naomi Ethington and Rosa Hughes.

  • Terry Lynn Sharon

    Firefighter Terry Lynn Sharon, 60, of Monterey, died Sept. 13, 2009, in the line of duty.

    Born Jan. 22, 1949, in Covington, he was the son of the late Leslie B. and Dorothy Sharon. Terry was a devoted member of the Monterey Volunteer Fire Department.

    He is survived by his girlfriend, Brenda Cox Bright of Frankfort; his half brother, David Sharon of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four cousins, Mark and Andy Rollins, and Larry and Dennis Sharon; an aunt, Margaret Rollins; an uncle, Pete Sharon; and a host of friends.
