  • Carl Thomas Read

    Bro. Carl Thomas Read, 68, of Gratz, passed away Nov. 24, 2009, at Owenton Manor.

    Born Jan. 26, 1941, in Campbellsville, he was the son of the late Claude and Millie Gilpin Read. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Archie, Kenneth and Walter. Bro. Carl was the minister at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for several years. He was also the former pastor of Gratz Baptist Church, a former member of Masonic Lodge Hiram #4, a Kentucky Colonel, and was a member of Promise Keepers.

  • Mary June Lowe

    Mary June Lowe, 82, of Owenton, passed away Nov. 19 at her residence following an extended illness.

    Born Jan. 10, 1927, in New Orleans, La., she was the daughter of the late Marlston Flynn, John Wesley and Josephine Lillian Hall Stowers. She was preceded in death by her sons, Robert Lowe and Tommy Patton; and three brothers, Julius, Doug and Buddy Flynn.

    Mrs. Lowe was the head waitress at Masterson Steak House in Louisville for 17 years and was also a switchboard operator. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she was the pianist.

  • Dorothy Chandler

    Dorothy Margaret Leake Chandler, 76, of Owenton, passed away Nov. 10, 2009, at Richwood Nursing Home in LaGrange.

    Dorothy was a former secretary for Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, a member of Homemakers, a member of the Rebecca’s Lodge, and a life-long member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Edward and Lillian Locke Leake; and her husband, Bobby R. Chandler.

  • Matthew Ryan Fernandez

    Matthew Ryan Fernandez, 21, of Owenton, died Nov. 18, 2009.

    The son of Kevin and Teresa Fernandez of Dry Ridge, he was a shipping clerk at L’oreal of Florence and aide at Owenton Manor. He also served in the Kentucky National Guard in Independence, 1204th Aviation Support Battalion.

  • Russell Trinkle

    Russell Wayne Trinkle, 87, of Owenton, passed away Nov. 12, 2009, at Owenton Manor.

    He was the son of the late Jefferson and Grace Totten Trinkle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Laura May Trinkle; and his brother, Oris Omer Trinkle.

    Russell was the former owner of Marston and Trinkle Insurance. He was also a farmer, a member of Owenton First Christian Church, a Mason, and a WWII Navy Veteran.

  • Betty Lou Kemper

    Betty Lou Kemper, 80, of Owenton, passed away after a long illness on Nov. 15, 2009.

    Born Feb. 29, 1929, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Howard “Whitey” and Mary C. McDonald.

    Ms. Kemper attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She retired from state government where she worked as one of the first female bank examiners. She also worked at General Butler State Park and was actively involved in her family’s businesses in Owenton.

  • Dianna Swann

    Dianna Louise Taylor Swann, 68, died Nov. 2, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Miss.

    Born Sept. 14, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Julia Elaine Taylor of Stamping Ground and Owenton. She was the sister of the late John E. Taylor.

  • Hillis Roberts

    Hillis Roberts, 74, of Bethlehem, died Nov. 8, 2009, at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.

    He was the son of the late Nick and Edith Kistner Roberts. He was a farmer, Motor Vehicle Enforcer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and member of Lockport Baptist Church.

  • Roy Dean Austerman

    Roy Dean Austerman, 20, of Owenton and formerly of Columbus, Ind., passed away Nov. 12, 2009.

    He was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, the son of Mark Douglas Austerman of Columbus, Ohio, and Cindy Johnson Linney of Owenton. Also surviving are his son, Blaze Kayne Austerman; two brothers, Zachery and Damaon Austerman; paternal grandparents, Charles and Sheldia Austerman; paternal great-grandmother, Inez Johnson; two nieces; and several cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ellen and Lynn Johnson.

  • Betty Jane Kemper

    Betty Jane Kemper, 80, of Winter Springs, Fla., and formerly of Owenton, died Nov. 6, 2009, at her residence.

    Born Dec. 20, 1928, in Owenton, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Blanche Lusby Rose and the widow of Bill Kemper. Mrs. Kemper was a homemaker and a member of Owenton First Christian Church.

    She is survived by her sons, Jerry Ellis of Dry Ridge and Stephen Ellis of Winter Springs, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
