  • Hilda Brown

    Hilda M. Brown, 85, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in LaGrange.
    Survivors include her two sons, Terry and Dana Brown; and one daughter, Vickie Gaither.
    A graveside service was held Friday, July 13, 2012, at the English Cemetery in Carrollton.
    The Graham-Dunn Funeral Home of Carrollton was in charge of all arrangements.

  • Betty Young

    Betty Ballard Young, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
    A native of Owen County, she was born Jan. 19, 1929, to George Washington and Lela McDonald Ballard. Ms. Young retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky after 35 years of service. She was an administrative assistant in various cabinets, the last three of which were Revenue, Transportation and Labor. She was a former member of O.E.S. Eastern Star Hiram #93.

  • Carolann Mitchuson

    Carolann Mitchuson, 21, of Lexington and formerly of Owenton, passed away on Monday July 2, 2012 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
    Born May 13, 1991, she was a 2009 graduate of Owen County High School, where she was a cheerleader.
    Carolann loved hanging out with her friends and family and was a member of the Owenton First Baptist Church.

  • Barbara J. Hitter

    Barbara J. Hitter, 76, of Fort Mitchell, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at her residence.
    She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church, a volunteer at St. Charles Care Center (Charlie’s Angels), a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital, an avid golfer and a member of several card clubs.
    Mrs. Hitter was preceded in death by her husband Charles Hitter in 1999.

  • Mary E. Keefe

    Mary E. Keefe, 78, of Louisville and native of Owen County, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, in Louisville.
    Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Thacker (Mike), Mary Ann Ridge (Matt), and Cindy Spencer; and a son, Joseph Warren Keefe, Jr.
    The funeral services were held Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Ratterman’s Funeral Home, St. Matthews. Burial was in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff.

  • Evelyn Riley Brock

    Evelyn Riley Brock, 96, passed away on June 27, 2012, at her residence in Wheatley, surrounded by her family.
    Evelyn was born Sept. 26, 1915 in Owen County to Robert Bryon and Emma A. Riley.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, H.T., S.B. and R.V. Riley; four sisters, Aileen Lanter, Thelma Rieper, Emily Riley and Bernice Riley; and her husband, Oren Bradford Brock.
    Evelyn and Bradford moved to DeLand, Fla., her mother’s hometown, in 1940 where she raised a family of four.

  • Lenvil J. Wainscott

    Lenvill J. Wainscott, 75, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at his residence near Pleasant, Ind.
    Survivors include his wife, Carolyn S. Wainscott, Pleasant, Ind.; two sons, Richard “Rick” Wainscott, Moorefield, Ind. and Lenvill Jeff Wainscott, Jr., Harrison, Ohio ; and three daughters, Kimberly Ann Moore, Kings Mills, Ohio, Donna J. Wainscott, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Melinda K. Tackett, Loveland, Ohio.

  • Adam Smith

    Adam Smith, 44, of Owenton passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his home.
    He was the son of Paul Smith and the late Ima Jean Rogers Smith.  He was the husband of Jennifer Smith of Corinth.  
    Adam is also survived by three sons, Shawn Adam Smith of Corinth, Justin Leigh Smith of Greenup and Cory Alexander Smith of Owenton; and one daughter, Selena Rose Smith of Corinth.
    The funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the McDonald and New Funeral Home on Main Street. Burial was in the Smith Family Cemetery.
     

  • Emerson Allen Lewis

    Emerson Allen Lewis, 69, a resident of Owen County passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012  at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Grant County.
    Emerson is the son of Edith Stewart Lewis, surviving, and the late Jessie Lewis.
    He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ruth Ann Lewis; his daughter, Edie Lewis Groover and husband Phil Groover; stepsons, Brian and Rodney Black; daughters-in-law, Susan Trish and Erin Black; grandchildren, Carter, Mckenzie, Rachel and Adam; three sisters, Wanda Dunavent, Sandy Olds and Charlotte Hardin; and countless family and friends.

  • Jack Gayle

    Jack Gayle, Jr., 95, of Valdosta, Ga., passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Heritage Healthcare.  
    Born in New Liberty, a town the Gayle family founded in the 1800s, on Jan. 2, 1917.  He was the son of the late Jack  Sr., and Mallie Kate Peggs Gayle.
