  • I was pleasantly surprised to find my neighbor and friend John Harrod featured in the “Kentucky Living” magazine this month. It was a very nice article.
My only negative comment was that they said he lived in Owenton, and he doesn’t even live close to Owenton. He lives on Kay’s Branch just across from my John’s house and has lived there for years. The only connection he has with Owenton is the rural mail carrier that drops off his mail.

  • With great anticipation, the Owen County farming community has always looked forward to summer with its cornucopia of fresh vegetables nurtured in Kentucky soil; although, much of the soil in this area is better suited for a potter’s wheel.

Generations of citizens who seem to have an over-abundance of material wealth, might find it difficult to imagine the great economic changes wrought by this devastating time in American history.

  • Seven descendants from the Smoot family and one from the Walkers were among the crowd that gathered at the I.O.O.F. Hall Thursday to hear the story of the Walker-Smoot feud. The scheduled speakers, Beth Raisor Jones and Susan Raisor Benton, had to cancel their presentation because of the recent death of their father. But Robert Walker and Lisa Smoot graciously agreed to tell the story according to what had passed down through their respective families.
