  • The Rev. Dann’s message was “Growing Like Weeds” on Sunday. He challenged us with the question, “Is our faith still growing like weeds, is it still active?” The choir sang a beautiful melody led by Berna Tanksley; and during the “Time for Young Disciples,” the children learned how easy it is to be successful when you have God’s help.

  • Bro. John’s message was on “Planking Ahead,” John 14:1-3. Jesus said he prepared us a place and will come back to get us. We need to plan for our trip. Jesus will come in the blink of an eye. The dead will rise first, then the saved will rise in the air to meet him. We pack for a trip now — when Jesus comes we don’t need anything but ourselves. We need to change our currency for heavenly currency. We need to help others. We need to use our gifts for the Lord and store accounts in Heaven. We need a ticket to travel here — our trip to Heaven is free, paid by Jesus on the cross.

  • A dedication service was recently held for Aiden and Arron Gullion. They were accompanied by Bro. Jared, Meagan and Bro. Matthew Gullion.

  • Last month, a man I know had surgery on his hand, the second surgery on the same hand.
After the first surgery his hand had lost quite a bit of feeling. On the one hand (no pun intended), that meant it didn’t hurt any more. But on the other, no feeling meant he couldn’t do his job, which requires using both hands and all his fingers.
After the second surgery his hand was still numb, which was a huge disappointment for him. But then during the middle of the night it started hurting. His wife told me he was happy for the pain because that meant he could feel again.

  • I finally got off the Branch last week. My van hadn’t left the garage since a week ago Thursday. Luckily, I had gone to the library Tuesday, the 18th, to stock up on books and gone to Walmart on Thursday to get dog food and milk. After that, the cold and snow moved in and I stayed in.

  • Recently the January cold spell broke, and after a couple days of rain, a farm wagon piled high with browned tobacco was seen sashaying behind a tractor on its journey down Hwy. 127. The once “King Crop” of Owen County was on its way to a prospective buyer.
