  • Sometimes when we’ve had a good day at our house, as we crawl into bed I’ll say to my husband, “Nobody cried and nobody threw hard-boiled eggs.”
The “nobody cried” is self-explanatory. The “nobody threw hard-boiled eggs” refers to the time I became so frustrated and enraged that I took a plastic container filled with a dozen hard-boiled eggs that I had just finished peeling and threw them with all my might, one by one, on the entry floor.

  • If age determined manhood, perhaps they didn’t qualify. Many were eighteen or nineteen, some younger. Yet, that fact was insignificant in battle. In all the wars which our country fought, young men served as a testimony that age is not a qualifying factor that determines honor, sacrifice, or heroism.
The Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 tested the mettle of our nation, as a new breed of Americans fought and won their independence.

  • The days are getting shorter and colder.
Wanda’s favorite pastime, fishing, has about come to an end till next spring. She and Barbara went to Elmer Davis Lake last week, on one of those mild day to wet a line.
Wanda said it was slow going, but they did catch enough for supper. It was just nice to be out on the water and spending time with her sister. She and Ray went back to the Game Farm to try their luck over the weekend, but the wind was so cold they gave up and packed it in. They did catch a few fish. The fishing poles are stored for the winter.

  • I spent this past weekend feeling sad.
The reason isn’t important — actually, there really wasn’t a reason other than I just felt like being sad, and so I was.
I called my sister to tell her that I was sad, but she was at her granddaughter’s soccer game and didn’t answer her phone, which made me even sadder.
I would’ve told my husband I was sad, but he would just tell me all the reasons I have not to be sad or he’d give me a pep talk, which is not the proper response to sadness, in my opinion.
