  • There’s always something new to click on Facebook, and recently it’s been “What Has 2016 Taught You?”
According to Facebook, here’s what I’ve supposedly learned this past year:
“Forgiving is easy; it’s trusting them again that’s hard.”
The folks or whoever/whatever at Facebook added, “The past year has changed you completely. You’ve seen your life from a completely different angle, and this led you to new experiences.”
    Hmmm.

We give glory to God for another wonderful day of worship. Our pastor brought a message from John 8:31-31 on the marks and benefits of a Christian. During the evening we enjoyed the Family Fun Fellowship and what a night of great activities, food, and fellowship.
The Church Co-ed Volleyball League is now in full swing and matches will be played every Monday evening which will result in the basketball court being closed from 5:45 p.m.-closing. First Baptist will play at 7:30 p.m., this Monday.

  • It was said the secret tunnel snaked its way underneath the streets of Owenton from the Owen County Courthouse to one of the nearby banks.
While attending Owen County Schools, Owen County Senior Center Manager Stacy Sipple Long, heard about this underground passage. The story goes that it provided a safe way for a judge to leave the courthouse if he rendered an unpopular verdict.

  • Here we are nine days into the new year. The 8th was Elvis' birthday. Danny's would have been the 9th, as was Joanne Ballenger-Wright. Everett Hawkins' was Tuesday. He is doing well after his extensive cancer treatments.
Billy Ballenger picked Everett up on Thursday after the snowfall in his side by side. They four-wheeled over Wanda's farm, Bruce's land and Everett's farm, enjoying the snow. The "buggy" is fitted with a good heater, of course.

  • Gary and Marsha Derringer are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mariah Kathryn Derringer, to Thomas Howard Lackey. Thomas is the son of Regina Novak of Frankfort, and David Neal of Owenton.  The wedding will take place at 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2017, at Monterey Baptist Church.
Mariah is a senior at Western Kentucky University and will graduate in May with a degree in Financial Management.  Thomas is a junior and is studying to receive a degree in Computer Science in 2018.

  • For Christmas I gave my husband Psalm 91.
Not all of it, just the first two verses:
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”
I found an artist on the Etsy website who hand paints scripture verses, white lettering on rustic gray paper.

We give thanks to the Lord for the uplifting day of worship. Our pastor returned to the study in John with a message entitled “Highway to Hell” from chapter eight verses 21-30. Jesus confronted the religious leaders of their horrifying destination due to their self-sufficiency, worldliness, unbelief and ignorance. Sunday evening we examined Genesis four which revealed the root cause of the worldwide flood.
