Special Honors

  • Local residents graduate from Centre College

    Two local students graduated from Centre College during the 188th commencement ceremony held at the college’s Norton Center for the Arts May 22.
    • Mary Takhtjian of New Liberty earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science. She is the daughter of George and Aro Takhtjian of New Liberty and is a graduate of Owen County High School.

  • Traylor earns doctorate in pharmacy at Kentucky

    On May 6, Brooke Traylor graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy with a doctorate in pharmacy. 
    At graduation, Traylor was awarded the Excellence in Geriatric Practice Award, which is sponsored by the Kentucky Pharmacists Association.
    Traylor is a 2004 graduate of Owen County High School and completed her undergraduate prerequisites at Georgetown College. 
    She will be working as a licensed pharmacist with CVS in Louisville.
    She is the daughter of Darryl and Susan Traylor of Owenton.

  • Local students among University of the Cumberlands January graduates

    University of the Cumberlands has announced 201 students completed degrees during the fall semester of the 2010-11 academic year. Among the January graduates are the following local students:
    • Stacy Kay Dunavent, of Owenton, master of arts in teaching.
    • Heather Risch, of Owenton, master of arts in teaching with a certification in mathematics.

  • Abby Gray earns degree

    Abby Cobb Gray graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in the College of Health Sciences Dec. 18, 2010. She was listed on the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester. The dean’s list includes the students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
    She is the daughter of Sherry and David Lyons of Owenton and Danny Cobb of Owenton.

  • Browning named to dean's list

    Jefferson Community and Technical College announced that Lana Browning of Owen County was listed on the 2010 fall semester dean’s list. Students must maintain full-time status and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher to be included.

  • Foundation continues commitment to students

    The Owen County Public Library Foundation Board recently announced that the inaugural winners of the James R. Ford Memorial Scholarship have received the second portion of the $1,500 scholarships. Dillon Mears is attending Kentucky Christian University and Joel Wilson is attending Northern Kentucky University. These scholarships are renewable, and are awarded to Owen County residents who are attending Kentucky colleges.

  • Stafford brothers graduate Eastern Kentucky University

    Landon Matthew Stafford and Michael Vincent Stafford, twin sons of Dallas R. and Melody L. Stafford of Owenton, graduated from Eastern Kentucky University Dec. 18 with bachelor of science degrees. Their majors were  homeland security with minors in asset protection. Both earned a 4.0 GPA during their last semester and were named to the president’s list. Landon was an officer and active member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Sigma Nu is one of Eastern’s top academically ranked fraternities.
