  • Special honor: Edward A. Webster

    Edward A. Webster of Owenton has been commissioned at Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Steve Beshear on March 5, 2013. It is the highest award given by the commonwealth of Kentucky. Kentucky colonelships are commissioned for an individual’s contribution to his community, state, or nation and for special achievements. Edward is the son of Roy and Brenda Webster of Owenton; the grandson of Catherine and the late Walter Webster of Owenton and the late Robert and Mildred Furnish of Ghent.

    12th Grade Super Honor Roll: Ashley Byers, Cayla Curtis, Mariah Derringer, Madison Gamble, Mitchell Griffin, Adam Hazlett, Tiffany Ohmer, Justin Shelton, Julie Spaulding, Katie Veech, Courtney Waldrop and Thomas Wright.

  • Academic achievements: Ann Smith Ralson

    Ann C. Smith Ralston graduated May 8, 2011, from Northern Kentucky University with a bachelor of arts degree in organizational leadership with a 3.5 grade point average. She is currently employed by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services in Bedford. She is a 1990 graduate of Owen County High School and a 1992 graduate of Midway with an associate’s degree in paralegal studies.

     

  • Campbellsville University presents awards

    Campbellsville University’s annual Honors and Awards Day presented students, faculty and staff awards recognizing them for their academics and service to the university and community.
    Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of the university, called the ceremony a “very special celebration” and said, “We celebrate with those recognized.”
    “This is a high day in the life of a university,” he said.

    Transylvania University
    Owen County High School graduate and Transylvania University first-year student Gray Grisham has been named to the dean’s list for the 2011 fall term.
    To be named to the dean’s list, a student must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average during the term.
    Grisham is the son of Glenn and Shawn Grisham of Owenton.

  • Marston completes boot camp

    PFC Ryan G. Marston of Owenton graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island Nov. 23.

  • Owen County residents named to Bluegrass Community and Technical College dean’s list

    Bluegrass Community and Technical College is proud to recognize students from Owen County who have achieved dean’s list honors for the 2011 spring semester.  
    BCTC’s dean’s list honorees for spring 2011 are: Georgia Kay Glass, Joan Marie Goderwis, Louanna Sheen Hammond, William James Ohmer, Shannon Gayle Walker, Jessica M. Wollam, and Lisa Frances York.

  • Local residents graduate from Centre College

    Two local students graduated from Centre College during the 188th commencement ceremony held at the college’s Norton Center for the Arts May 22.
    • Mary Takhtjian of New Liberty earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science. She is the daughter of George and Aro Takhtjian of New Liberty and is a graduate of Owen County High School.
