  • Much to be thankful for throughout 40 years of faith

    Dear God,
Here I am again, my 17th year of making public my thanks and gratitude to you for yet another year of your faithful kindness and goodness to me.
Lord, you and I have walked together for nearly 40 years, and even when I’ve strayed from the path, you’ve never left my side or dropped hold of my hand, even for a moment.
You have walked with me through “hell and high water,” through the fire and over the rocky roads. Often I’ve been afraid, although always needlessly.

A spirit of joy was felt by all as we gathered to worship the Lord this past Sunday.
Our pastor brought the message from John 7 entitled “An Incomparable Invitation.”
Sunday evening we participated in the Community Thanksgiving Service.
Our young ladies concluded the drive for Operation Christmas Child with a special prayer of blessing for all the children who would be receiving the special gifts.

  • It’s a wise person that cries out to God for wisdom

I know stuff, although most of it is useless.
Like, only 30 percent of people can flare their nostrils.
I know that two-thirds of people tilt their heads to the right when they kiss and that supposedly chewing gum while cutting onions will keep you from crying. Since I don’t chew gum, I don’t know how true that is. I also don’t know why onions make you cry.

We enjoyed a powerfully uplifting worship service that included a message from John six entitled “Why is Jesus Wearing an ‘I am second’ Bracelet.” During the evening service we were greatly moved by the documentary movie “The Insanity of God.”
Our Manna in the Morning will meet for the final time this year at 10:00 a.m. We will enjoy a time of prayer and then off for lunch.

  • Everyone is forgiven greatly, but not everyone knows it

Here’s a question for you: When is sin a good thing?
Recently, I heard a preacher say, “The greatest gift that God gives to the people he loves is their sin — when they know it.”
I’ll let you digest that for a minute.
The preacher did not say that God thinks sin is good. Sin is what separates the creature from the Creator, the very thing that caused Jesus to die for us.
No, the preacher said that our sin, when we know it and own it and hate it, is a gift, a gift from God.
    How can that be?

  • God can still restless hearts in frenzied and frantic times

By the time I left the newsroom I was ready to rip out my hair or stick a hot poker in my ears.
All day the noise and commotion drove me to distraction — and it had been a fairly quiet day. I was alone in the pod I share with two other reporters and my phone only rang once.
You would think the quiet would be conducive to a productive day, but I could barely put two sentences together because of the noise and commotion coming from within, my whirlwind thoughts stirring up fears and anxieties I thought I had put to rest.
