  • Being kinder to one another could be the start of a Utopia

After deep and serious thought, I think I have a solution for all the world’s major problems:

    Everybody stop.

Just stop. Take a breath. Step back. Chill out.

Protesters, go ahead and protest, but you don’t have to riot, so put down your bricks and rocks. Stop looting. Stop damaging people’s property. Stop shouting obscenities — and clean up your litter on the streets.

  • Talking chicken can put a whole barnyard into hysteria

    by Roger Alford

Perhaps many of us are familiar with the barnyard tale of Chicken Little, who, depending on the variation of the story, was frightened out of his wits when a leaf fell on him.

Chicken Little ran around the farm warning: “The sky is falling; the sky is falling.”

    Mt. Pleasant Baptist

“I Believe” was beautifully sung by Barry Winkle last week. Flo Parker joyfully sang “Follow Me” Sunday.

“He Didn’t Throw the Clay Away” from Jeremiah 18:1-6 was the basis of Bro. Dale’s message. God is a patient potter, and we are the clay. We were made by God but marred by sin.

  • Parrots need to be careful where they say ‘here kitty, kitty’

    by Roger Alford

A distraught woman called 911, desperately seeking help to find her missing parrot.

“We can’t help you with that, ma’am,” the dispatcher told her. “This number is for real emergencies only.”

“But you don’t understand,” the woman persisted. “This is a real emergency. The only thing he knows how to say is: ‘Here kitty, kitty.’”

  • As Christians, families kept together through love and grace of God

Have you seen “This is Us?”

It’s an NBC drama on Tuesday nights that follows the Pearson family: three siblings -- Kevin, Kate and Randall -- and their parents, Jack and Rebecca.

Actually, Kevin and Kate are two-thirds of a set of triplets. The third triplet, Kyle, died at birth.

  • What kind of person screams one minute, cries the next?

  • Facebook, social media provide life lessons in short posts

There’s always something new to click on Facebook, and recently it’s been “What Has 2016 Taught You?”
According to Facebook, here’s what I’ve supposedly learned this past year:
“Forgiving is easy; it’s trusting them again that’s hard.”
The folks or whoever/whatever at Facebook added, “The past year has changed you completely. You’ve seen your life from a completely different angle, and this led you to new experiences.”
    Hmmm.

    First Baptist Owenton
We give glory to God for another wonderful day of worship. Our pastor brought a message from John 8:31-31 on the marks and benefits of a Christian. During the evening we enjoyed the Family Fun Fellowship and what a night of great activities, food, and fellowship.
The Church Co-ed Volleyball League is now in full swing and matches will be played every Monday evening which will result in the basketball court being closed from 5:45 p.m.-closing. First Baptist will play at 7:30 p.m., this Monday.
