  • Roger Alford: Power of God is on full display every day

One of the best illustrations of an overinflated ego is in the story about the woodpecker that perched itself on a mighty oak tree, reared back and took a whack just as a bolt of lightning hit the trunk. The tree split from top to bottom and splinters flew in every direction. The woodpecker took off in a flash but came back a few minutes later with several of his buddies and said: “Look there what I did.”
All to often we, like that little woodpecker, take credit for things that are truly acts of God.

Bro. Steve delivered God’s word from Ezekiel 22:26-31 titled “Similarities We Must See.”
We praised God through songs lead by Dave Jones and were blessed with Mary Marlow’s wonderful talent of playing the piano. It is great to be able to join together with brothers and sisters in Christ to praise God in his sanctuary.
Our quarterly business meeting will be Oct. 13 after the morning worship. WOM will be having its meeting at 4 p.m. at the church. All women are welcome to attend.

Sunday morning, Bro. Bill continued with his message on the Ten Commandments and looked at number five, “Honor your father and your mother.” Part of the focus was on how we as parents can be honorable. We are to walk in newness (Romans 6:4), walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7), walk in the spirit (Galatians 5:16), walk in love (Ephesians 5:2), walk in wisdom (Co. 4:5), walk in truth (3 John 4) and walk after his commandments (2 John 6). What are we planting in the lives of children and grandchildren?

There was such joy in our worship service this past Sunday. We give thanks to God for the blessing of fellowship with the saints.
Our pastor continued on the theme of family and preached on “Truths to Teach Every Toddler to Teen.” They must be taught respect for authority, elders, parents, property, children, nature and self. If parents are to claim the promise of Proverbs 22:6, they must carry out the responsibilities. Sunday evening our pastor preached on “Seeing the Unseen” from Hebrews 11:27.

Glory to God in the highest Heaven and peace on Earth. Bro Steve delivered God’s word from Luke 1:26-45 titled “Discoveries From Christmas.” It is wonderful to know that God grants, gives, provides, works and desires each of us to be his children. Is it not wonderful to have God in our lives this Christmas season ?
