• Maybe persistently mean Christians haven’t been changed by Christ

I don’t know why I was so surprised, but I was.
A few weeks ago, my pastor spoke on a controversial topic, racism, and did an absolutely amazing job, balancing truth and grace.
    That’s not what surprised me.
What surprised me was learning that he was attacked for it, the target of mean-spirited vitriol, face to face encounters and emails.
People love grace, but truth? Not so much.

  • Peace and to watch the Gilmore Girls reunion ... That’s all I want

Last year we became quasi-temporary guardians of our youngest daughter’s two cats, Mohawk and Target.
I say quasi-temporary because the daughter has since moved out after staying with us for a year, but the cats are still with us.
Once our daughter left, we decided to move the cats’ litter box from the guest bathroom to the now-empty spare bedroom.
To us humans, that’s a simple change, but not to the cats.

Great worship was experienced Sunday in both morning and evening.  Morning message was taken from Isaiah 6:1-11 on ‘Who will Go?’ and in the evening service we have started a series on ‘The Holy Spirit’ focusing this week on what the Holy Spirit does in our lives today.  If you want to hear the truth of God’s Word taught, come visit us at 11 and 6 each Sunday for worship and 9:45 for small group Bible study.

  • The Good Shepherd always finds and saves all who belong to him

I have a Facebook friend in Colorado, another Christian writer I’ve met with a number of times over the years at various Christian publishing events.
For the past few years she’s been writing about her oldest son, Zach, who is a drug addict.
He’s had periods of being clean, but they haven’t lasted. Last summer he nearly died from a drug overdose -- his third overdose in less than a year -- and spent several days in ICU on a respirator, suffering seizures.

It was a beautiful day as we worshiped the Lord together with great hymns and messages. Sunday morning Bro. Bill’s message was on “Checking the Score,” taken from Revelation 2:1-7 and Matthew 16:26.  We were so glad that Doris Ann and Tierra were able to worship with us.  We’ve missed them due to sickness and college.
Our Sunday evening message was on “Attitudes of One that Loves Jesus.” Using many scriptures we were challenged to examine how and why we love Jesus.

  • Getting tooth pulled without Novocain not so bad

Perhaps you heard about the wife and husband who interrupted their vacation to go to the dentist.

“I want a tooth pulled, and I don’t have time for Novocain,” the wife said. “I’m in a big hurry to get back to the beach. Just yank it out quickly, and we’ll be on our way.”

Needless to say, the dentist was quite impressed.

“You’re an incredibly brave woman,” he said. “Which tooth is it?”

  • Letting God take control, because when I try to fix things, they get worse

    Dear God,

As you know, last Sunday morning I posted the following on Facebook:

    “Dear God,

I’m trying to control the universe as best I can, but I think I’m failing at it. It might be time for me to step aside and let you take over – I hear you laughing! – but I’m not sure I know how to do that, seeing as I’ve been doing this for so long.

So, please be patient with me and don’t smite me with boils or ugly hair.

    Thank you, NK”
